2020 F-150 Lariat tail lights stolen in Galveston in valet lot of major hotel. Ford wants $4,200 to replace both (including BLIS modules). Ouch. Hate thieves. They pried open my bed cover to access panel on back of tailgate. Opened tailgate via that panel after unscrewing several screws. Then they had access to tail light screws.

Beware!

Thieves suck and should be immediately executed once apprehended.

Agree. Maybe even via a fall from a helicopter. But what a "username doesn't check out."

Does the Valet ticket have a disclaimer taking no responsibility? If you self parked that (in my mind at least) might be different.

Would security screws on the taillights and tailgate have potentially made a difference? I'm sure they would have still broken ***t in frustration…who knows, maybe they would do more damage.

Sharia Law does handle theft pretty well.

Valet parked my truck. Normally it's a fenced-in lot, but they recently expanded the parking lot so they were missing a large section of fence…

There was the typical disclaimer on the valet stub that they're not responsible for pretty much anything, except for negligence on their part. To sum up conversations with them: "We locked your truck. Unfortunate situation. The lot being fenced in wouldn't have made a difference. We are not liable for theft."

Nice.

Do the security screws even make a difference? The ones I've seen have a special head with a driver to screw/unscrew them. Seem to be pretty easy to get around it with a pain of channel locks.

Jimmy Jammer makes security screws. I use them plus some of their other products as well. Makes it harder for them to steal.

WTF could possibly cost that much in a tail light?! Is it not just some LED bulbs in a clear plastic box?

Frickin thieves suck
Maybe look up nearby pick a part places and call and inquire about lights? Go buy yours back basically for a fraction of the Ford price

I have a 2019 and plan on buying these. Only problem is that I'm sure the thieves carry the removal tool as well. It might be a good idea to goop the head of the screw with RTV. It might slow the ******* enough to make him leave.

Thieves suck.

Son just purchased a 24 F350 . Instructed him to replace key bolts or screws with any different head. York or Allen or anything different. I'm thinking that these guys making a living off taillights or tailgates have a certain bit on cordless drill. May as well make it challenging for them.
I put a hose clamp on tailgate hinge. It may not stop the theft but they have to work at it.
On my 18 F250 they got thru original door handle when it was maybe a month old. Replaced DS door handle with PS door handle requiring easy modification. It eliminated the key entry but also stoped the easy entry using vice grips.

Yea or security Allen. But I'd bet like I said earlier that they have the correct wrench in a cordless ready to go. Anything that messes up a quick snatch and grab would work.
It's also insane that they putting parts like that on a vehicle.

Car manufacturers are pushing up the prices with that stuff, thieves steal them, insurance companies have to pay to replace (stolen or from an accident).

Everyone is losing, except the thieves, well and I guess the car makers are happy too. Isn't that ironic?

My first truck off the lot was a 79 Chevy Sport Stepside. Cost a whopping $5828. Got in an altercation at Golden Stallion Dance Hall and got taillight taken out. Cost $25 for replacement.

Sucks dude, I'm sorry. I got hit twice, once at work, the other at home. Don't even bother replacing with OEM. Mine were gone in a few months after replacement. Not sure why some trucks get hit and others, there must be some that are easier to pop out.

BLIS (blind spot detection) radar modules are most of the cost.
