See if you can find a wrecked one at a junk yard. Small chance but might get lucky

Since it's already dead, see if you can surgically open it up and find out what's wrong.

I'm filing a claim for that.

How do we accept as a society that taillights cost $1300? Wasn't there a guy that had his stolen off his F-150 and they were $4500 or something insane to replace?

A set for my 2003 Excursion would run me a cool $39 plus shipping. $101 for my 2007 Tundra.

Not trying to kick OP while he is down, that freaking sucks. I just don't understand how we got to this point. They are taillights.

Just the way of technology. Your lights are colored plastic with two bulbs 1/4 twisted into the back.

Things have evolved....

OLD STYLE REMOTE BACK UP SENSOR:

NEW SENSORS:

All kidding a side, the manufacturers push all of the high end upgrades UP the trim levels. Even Ford King Ranch trucks don't get LED tail lights. If you want that, you have to go up again. I miss the days when there were three trim levels.

Both my truck and excursion have back up sensors. In the bumper. Where they belong.

That said I keep them turned off and use the tried and true trailer hitch method you mentioned.

The taillights don't have backup sensors, the taillights have blindspot warning sensors. The backup sensors in the bumper.

The blindspot radars take up quite a bit more room than a backup sensor.

Most cars/SUVs hide them behind the rear bumper covers but that's not really possible on a truck with a metal bumper

Warranty won't cover it?
Is your warranty out?

ironically, I replaced it and discovered a short in the wire harness attachment to the back of the $1300 taillight. I'm going to ask the dealer this week if warranty covers that as it appears unrelated to the cracked taillight

I had the exact same thought on this thread and the Ford one. This is just insane and completely unsustainable.

I had my '14 Tundra tail light busted at my son's lacrosse practice. $38 later it's as good as new.
