Warranty should cover this right?

I had someone hit my taillight and cracked the plastic. About a week later the taillight stopped working. I replaced the taillight but discovered upon changing that the reason it stopped working was a short in the wiring harness connection to the taillight.

It wasn't water penetration because the short was outside of the taillight...

Thoughts? anyone has experience in this regard?

Never had any experience with something like this but if I had to guess the warranty will go like insurance....look for every reason to deny so be prepared and smart with your wording on the issue

Make sure the dealer doesn't know about any damage otherwise they will use that as the excuse not to cover it. I'd go in and tell them it stoooed working and leave it at that.

This. The moment you mention someone hit your taillight all bets are off

I'm reading it as "need to know basis, don't volunteer unnecessary information"

This sounds like you just bought a taillight and installed it yourself after the damage? How did you troubleshoot the current situation?

I'm going to have to show them the taillight and they are going to see the crack in it...

Ok... I reread... So you're wanting a refund for the light you bought? You replaced it out of pocket because you thought the same cause the problem but now you believe the issue was not due to the damage?

So the light that's currently on the vehicle works?
