Needing to replace the battery in our 21 Explorer. It's 4 years old and I have started to see the system is charging when stopped so it's probably starting to get a bit weak.

What all is needed to reset the BMS system, or is it even needed?

To reset a Ford Explorer's Battery Management System (BMS), with the vehicle off, turn the ignition to the "on" position (without starting the car), flash the high beams five times, then press the brake pedal three times; the battery light should flash indicating a successful reset.

I saw that, but then other places says it doesn't work and is for European vehicles.

The owners manual doesn't list anything about needing to re-train the BMS system. It will do it after the car has been off for 8 hours.

Did see something interesting that the ignition has to be off for more than 2 minutes or you risk corrupting the computer systems and it's not covered under a warrenty fix.

I changed the battery in my 2020 explorer and didn't do any kind of reset. Never had any problems.

This works for almost all Fords I work on.

Thanks for the help everyone. Got the battery swapped out and the light flashed like in the video and such. So confirm works for 21 Ford explorer.

TPMS sensors are all blanked out now though. So not sure if I'm going to have to retrain those or not.
