Any recommendations for insuring a new Tesla? I'm finding many won't insure in Harris County area.
TIA

We had GEICO before switching back to USAA. The premium wasn't any higher than the X3 we replaced.

I ended up with GEICO. Found it to be the best when shopping around.

The Tesla Insurance was easy to get (naturally since it is their company). The premium varies each month based on the miles driven and your safety score. The safety score is determined by how much you drive over 85 mph, how close you drive to the vehicle in front of you, how fast you take corners, heavy braking, and the time of day you drive. Biggest hit to the score is driving after 10pm and before 4am, from what I remember in 2023.

Edit: Looks like they revised the score system some since I had it

Weird thing, never spoke with anyone the whole time I had the insurance. The only Tesla employee I talked to thru the whole buying process was at vehicle pick up location.

This story may not impact you as the insured party, but my experience filing a claim against Tesla Insurance was not positive.

Family member was involved in an accident as a passenger with significant bodily injury. I filed the claim through my insurance, Tesla did not contact us (insurance or me) for 2 months, and the only reason I got contacted was because I finally called their claim line. I had to act like I was filing a new claim as if I was a Tesla insured party to finally to talk a rep. The rep then told me they are overworked and can't always get to all the claims. In addition, they attempted to reach out to us with our "provided" contact information. The contact information they had: phone # (000)000-0000; email: unknown.

This was after several calls and emails by my insurance and me to our assigned adjuster along with certified letters asking for call backs.

Sorry for the rant. Just not a great experience as a claimant.

Is this really becoming an issue? I have State Farm and I'm looking at getting a Tesla so I had them quote it for me and it wasn't really any different than another car.

I have Progressive for my Model 3 in Comal County. Nothing else to report since no claims.
