I have read the threads about this dealership but they have a wagoneer that the wife wants and a pretty good price listed on their website. Any contacts or suggestions? I am willing to pay what it is listed for on their website but would like to get couple grand off if possible.

Do not trust the price Mac Haik Jeep has online. I called and to make sure that was going to be the price we would negotiate so that I did not waste 2 hours driving there and back.

When I got there they had added over $4k to the starting price for dealer add ons.

Mark Dodge Ram Jeep is a volume dealer in Lake Charles that has better pricing and selection than most dealers. They are recommended on most Ram and Jeep forums for good purchasing experiences.

Ask them for a finance offer just for fun. See if you get offered a rate higher or lower than the 23% they offered me.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scorpion_and_the_Frog

A scorpion wants to cross a river but cannot swim, so it asks a frog to carry it across. The frog hesitates, afraid that the scorpion might sting it, but the scorpion promises not to, pointing out that it would drown if it killed the frog in the middle of the river. The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion. Midway across the river, the scorpion stings the frog anyway, dooming them both. The dying frog asks the scorpion why it stung despite knowing the consequence, to which the scorpion replies: "I am sorry, but I couldn't help myself. It's my character."

Scorpion - slimy car dealer incapable of honoring a fair deal.

Frog - naive customer.

I bought my 2020 Wrangler JLUR there 5 years ago.

The online price was legit except for as pointed out, some of the dealer add ons which were mostly BS.
I did get a few free oil changes.

I'd have to go back and look up specifically what the add ons were, I don't remember right now.

They were advertising exactly the Jeep I wanted at a substantially marked down price. I think it was about $10k below MSRP. So after the $3k of BS, I was still at $7k off.

I was talking to another dealer (in Las Vegas, NV) and the best they would do was about $3k off MSRP. The other thing was the way the Vegas dealer ordered all of their Jeeps was not what I wanted. That dealer was pushing the 2.0L Turbo with the Sky One-Touch Power Top.

The major thing to watch out for at Mac Haik is the Finance department.

I walked in there with my pre-approved loan from USAA and the Finance guy asked to see if he could beat it and they'd give me like another $1,000 or something off the purchase price if I used their lender. I said, OK, see if you can beat it.

I gave them an hour and they tried 20 different lenders or whatever. Couldn't come close to what I already had with USAA.

I was thinking no harm, no foul, OK.

All was good until I refinanced my house in August of 2020 and they wanted to know why on one day in February of 2020, my credit was run 15 times. They did fifteen credit pulls during the hour that they were trying to beat my USAA loan.

So, word to the wise, come in with your own financing, don't let them try to beat it. Just buy it and go home with the vehicle you want at the price you're looking for.

After we finally reached a reasonable price, I told Mac Haik that I was not financing. That did not make them happy. They said they would not agree to our deal unless I financed at least 6 months. I walked out. They called me back to apologize and said if I come back to buy the Jeep they would drop $1k from agreed to price, finance or no finance. I should have told them to kick sand, but I didn't.

I purchased a truck from Mark Dodge after dealing w/ Mac Haik off I-10. At Mac Haik, the online/phone call price was jacked up $10k when I walked through the door, said the incentives were only for certain people. Think it was financed with them before, will finance again, Houston resident, etc. They also held my trade in keys hostage for a time, until it got to the point I walked into the managers office to get them myself. Obviously they called me later to try and make a deal, but that ship had sailed.

Per the advice from the board, I called Mark Dodge about a truck I liked. I ended up buying it from them Oct. 2023. The online price advertised is what I paid, they gave me full KBB value on my trade in with just a few pictures over text, and then drove the new truck from the dealership to my office in Houston, and drove my trade back for no cost. They also handled all the paperwork and sent me a small check for the differences in registration fees. For good measure, they even threw in a front license plater holder since it did not come with one.

I'll probably only ever buy from Mark Dodge if I go the Ram route again. I will certainly not ever go to another Mac Haik dealer.

Yeah, at the end of the day, I got what I wanted which was a new Wrangler JLUR in the color I wanted with the features I wanted, at a price I was willing to pay.

But would I recommend them as a dealership - no.

Only if they have exactly what you want on their lot and you bring your own financing.

Trade-in wasn't a factor in my case as I was moving back to the USA so I had no vehicle at all - and desperately needed one.

My daughter had the 1999 Expedition at college in Virginia and my 2001 Grand Cherokee was in a shipping container in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Other fun fact is that this was during the 35 day period where I was homeless at the beginning of 2020. It was pretty funny having a good job, getting paid in US Dollars and having a brand new car but, not having any place to live. My whole world was in a suitcase, a backpack and a duffel bag. Everything else was in a shipping container.

I've been looking at a cheap trim level Ram 1500 (Lone Star/Bighorn) for my boys to drive and Mack Haik usually has them advertised at a lower price than anybody else. I just didn't believe that they would really honor that price without a bunch of surprises like add-ons and reasons why I didn't qualify for one discount or another. Meanwhile, the Mark Dodge prices are usually a couple grand more. In any case I keep hoping that prices drop just a little more.

I keep getting served ads for brand new 2024 Jeep Gladiators at $20,000 off MSRP.

I'm not in the market for a new Jeep, don't need one and I don't have any interest in the Gladiator.

It looks like there are still a lot of unsold 2024 trucks out there in general. I watched a YouTube last night talking about how Ford is even starting to cut deals on Broncos.

Maybe hold out a little longer for that new RAM.

Granger Motors up near Des Moines, IA is also a good place to look, but a farther commute for most on this board. We ordered our van from them because the folks at Mark Dodge in LA did not return my call or email about ordering one. Ironically, I now live/work in Lake Charles and took the van there for service the one time I had a warranty issue.
