I can't imagine buying a 6.2 and then being cheap on fuel lol

I got 130k miles out of a 2019 Sierra AT4 with 6.2 with no issues. Only ever ran 87 unleaded. A friend with '21 of the same truck is now on his third engine. Main bearing failure in the first two.

Looks like this bearing issue started in 2021?

What changed?

Bearings?
2 stage oil pump?
Engine mapping changes for revisions in 10 spd transmission?

FYI, the denali which has the 6.2 comes with a 5 year 60k mile warranty.

And for the record GM sales roughly 250-300k 6.2L engines every year. You're going to hear of horror stories with that many. Same thing with Ford's ecoboost engines or 6.7 diesel engines and the cp4 pump.

When you sell that many vehicles with that engine you're going to find thousands of stories of failure on line....it's just math.

2018 Yukon with the 6.2 here. 91k miles. Just lost the ****** and its currently at the dealer for the infamous misfire, aka probably has lifter failure. Fuuuuuck GM

Forgive my ignorance, but with these lifter failures, are you dead in the water? Or can you still get it to a dealership? The scariest thing, IMO, is losing power at high speeds with the 6.2L bearing failures. That and potentially losing the vehicle on a road trip, a good distance from a service point.

My lifter failure is still drivable, just has a misfire on #2

It's also probably shaving a lobe off your cam. Maybe change the oil more frequently if you're gonna keep driving it so that metal doesn't stop up your filter

Haha yeah, they're scoping the cam out today

Proper fix entails replacing the cam anyways

This guy's video has great insight into what you might be facing if the lifter issue comes knockin':

He also has a 2 hour long complete teardown and rebuild video of a 6.2 on his channel. Very detailed and knowledgeable.

I have the 6.2 V8 in my 2023 camaro ss 1le but believe mine is technically lt1 while the 6.2 in the newer trucks is a lt2.

that being said, I drive the hell out of my car on the track often and have zero failures. I have 7,000 miles and 1/4 of that is hard track time.

My '23 1500 is waiting for engine #3. The second engine did not last 6k miles.

Any details you can share on previous failures?

#1,2 mains and rods?
Any damage on camshaft?
etc...

Wife's 2023 Suburban Z71 6.2 crapped out on her while heading out of town. Left her on the side of the road. Towed to dealership and has been there for a month now. Engine on back order and no idea when replacement will get here.

Bought a '23 Trail Boss 5.3 a month ago. I too have read up on lifter failure issues. My truck has 28K miles on the clock. Seems like the majority of issues have happened at or below 15K miles so there's that FWIW.

I did add a Range Technologies AFM/DFM disabler ($200) to the ECM to force the engine to run all 8 cylinders full time. It also disables the pesky auto stop function.

Granted, the potentially weak lifters are still in the engine but the constant start/stop multi cylinder cycles that can cause failures is no longer functional.

Saw your post a few weeks back and immediately bought one for my '24 Z71 with 5.3L. Finally got around to installing it last night. Noticeable difference in performance on my drive to work from ITL to Conroe this morning. Hubby drives the same truck but 2WD. I'll be ordering one for him asap. Disabling the auto-off alone makes it worth it.

Just hit 2 years at 60k miles on my '23 5.3 Sierra. Have not had issues to this point. Maybe I'm lucky.

5.3 seems to be immune to this particular issue.

Good to know. I plan to drive this one to around 100k then make a change. Figure ill get there this time next year with the amount of driving i do. To date this has been a reliable truck.

Good to hear. I got a 24 z71 suburban with 5.3 and the 6.2 issues were a deciding factor.

I turned in my 2024 6.2L high country Tahoe lease last month. The dealer picked it up from my house and it went into limp mode and the engine quit on their way back. $12k replacement

If I buy another 1500 GM truck or full size SUV, I'd only consider the 3.0 or maybe the 4 cylinder but I don't care for the trims it's in.

I have a 2019 Silverado with a 5.3 and have never once had an issue with the engine. It has 81.5k miles, and the engine is totally great for how I use it. I've driven a 6.2 before, and while I liked it better, I didn't like it so much more than to risk the rampant failure issues. That, and my Range AFM disabler works wonders to run all 8 at once.

Wow, I just read through that recall. If no DTC set, change the oil type from 0W-20 to 0W-40 and ship it? That is the poorest response to an issue I have ever seen. Anyone with any sense is going to run from this.

So, OK, I am going to spend 80K on a luxury SUV or pickup truck that has an engine with a design marginality that sensitive to a small of a change in oil viscosity? No thanks.

To me, I read GM's response to this as them just being cheap and not wanting to actually pay out of pocket to fix or correct the issues.

I tell you - I grew up as a Chevy/GM guy from both sides of my family - but these constant engine issues and failures are going to be a thorn in their side for a long time. It's close to steering my away from them.

GM needs better leadership and stewardship from the executive level. This ain't cutting it.

More stupidity due to CAFE rules, using oil that's too thin to cool the engine just to squeeze out a marginal improvement in fuel economy.
