So how are the 22's doing?

As the owner of one with 70k miles, should I be worried?

Guess I'll try to find a place to change the fluid.

Just picked up my wife's Expedition from the transmission shop this morning. $9095.12 later.

This is so tempting but I don't want to lay out any cash and we got 0% financing. I don't even know what we would go with. Id love to get a Tesla SUV for the wife but I just don't think it would be big enough for road trips and she takes frequent trips to Houston and I don't want her to get stuck out.

yep I got 0% too in 2019. its paid off now though.

my buddy said he can get me 6% right now which sucks but I am going to put a lot down and minimize it.

I have already spent $3k on the AC in this POS. $500 to ix the f'n horn. Can feel the transmission going now. im done worrying about it.

going to buy certified preowned Denali and get back under warranty for 4 years.

If you get a new expedition get the extended warranty for the peace of mind but definitely still do the fluid changes every 40k. Shouldn't be an issue.

Only other SUV wife looked at was the Lexus LX 600 4x4. Liked it but didn't have the towing capability as the Expedition with the heavy duty tow package/3.73 setup. Also we are long time Ford families on both sides & we get employee pricing due to her family retiring from Ford.

Did you use the dealer? Buddy just had theirs redone at an independent shop for 5900 with a 30K mile warranty.

I used an independent shop. The warranty on it is 3 years, unlimited miles. The replacement transmission is OEM.

It's getting to where keeping a paid off vehicle is too risky. One failure and you're out of pocket $10K and a out of a vehicle for awhile. These newer vehicles need to be sold off before the warranty expires or you could lose a lot of cash fast.

I've got 38K miles of warranty left on my 2019 Raptor. I know that it's just a matter of time until the cam phasers fail ($4K), Transmission CDF Drum fails ($8K-$10K), IWE fails ($2K ish), Sunroof fails ($1,500 if done cheaply, $5K from a dealership). Those are almost certain failure points. Then there's a good chance the turbos fail or the engine seizes up based on what other owners have experienced.

Changing the fluid is not the fix on these, it's a design flaw. I know because I did it to no avail on mine. I would suggest buying a monthly pay warranty and sending it. Thats what I did, $80 or so a month. You don't have to wait for the transmission to completely fail, they will approve replacement before it gets that far. I was out of pocket $1600 to have a new one installed vs junkyard. Got the new updated ford transmission with a 3 year 100k mile warranty. Mine is a 2018 so also has the dog s*** timing chain/phaser setup. Water pump is spendy to replace as well. So I'll probably keep paying the monthly warranty, it's pennies in comparison to a new car.

Yall really make me scared about holding our 22 a decade. That was the plan as it was built without the start/stop BS due to the chip shortage and cheap interest

And got to spend $750 to fix a $40 rear expansion valve due to the new freon.

Quietly ignoring the wife-mobile 24' expedition max with 35,000 miles on it now.....

Was going to shop it at Bill Fick and let them do the trans & anything else at 50,000..... now questioning that logic.

We had almost 130K on ours when we upgraded to a 22 last month. We had Zero issues with the transmission on the old one. But I also changed the fluid regularly.

I honestly didn't know this was an option after the factory warranty expires. Is it anything like anyone warranty where they put band aids on major issues with the cheapest possible vendor and then try and deny you have coverage on things when they truly fail?

yep. same. sucks because I bought it for 40k at 0.0%. Paid off now and was looking forward to having 5 more years of a nice car and no payment.

trading it in this weekend for a Denali.

my buddy works at Sewell in Dallas. found me a nice deal. He is an Aggie. I can get you in contact if you want to hear some options!

I live in houston and he is bringing the car to me. would do the same for you if you needed.

Is the 6.2 in the Denali really any better from a reliability standpoint? They seem to be having at least as many issues.

The Chevy/GMC 10 speed 10L80 transmission has issues as well. Also the 6.2L has motor issues.

Company I use is called protection link, found out about on this board as they are or were a sponsor. I took it to the shop of my choosing, brazos valley automotive on ponderosa. Transmission had been acting up for some time, but car still drove fine. Needed the water pump done so took it in for that and the transmission. They wanted to replace the transmission with a junkyard one, so I paid 1600 more for a new one. They covered the 9k bill otherwise no questions asked. I'm happy with them, as my 800 I have paid in so far has more than paid off

From.X - Tahoes have their own issues too like others have pointed out.

We were stranded on the highway a few weeks ago.

Our 2023 Tahoe with 15,000 miles literally just shut off on the highway with my wife and kids in the car. Had to cruise to the side.

Just got the call from Chevy: Total engine failure.

Googled it. Common issue. Avoid the 6.2L.

There were a lot of people in that thread with same problem.

I honestly think we will sell Expy and get slightly used Model X. Skylight size downgrade but we will manage.

I think the 23 and newer expeditions will be hard to beat reliability wise. I would get one without thinking twice.

Between the cam phasers on my truck and the transmission on this Expy I'm over it. Gas savings alone should be worth it. We put about 25k miles per year on it so that will add up.

I tried to talk my wife into a Tesla. She put's about the same amount of miles on her Navigator running kids all over the place. I also tried talking her into getting an LX570 or Sequoia instead of a Navigator. You see how that turned out.

Interesting enough our 2019 Expedition has had zero transmission or engine problems. Only issues are a sometimes the A/C decides to blow high instead of low randomly even on the low setting and the two plastic pieces on the top rear corners have both cracked in the middle. Other than that, no problems. 40k miles last month and still on the original set of tires. Am hoping to get at least 10-12 years out of this one as we paid it off last year. New ones are too expensive.

My 2020 f250 is the one that's started to have the hard shift every morning from 5th to 6th.

Original Toyos on our 22 have 70k on them and still room to run. But the light is showing at the end of tunnel. I started running higher PSI as corner wear is culprit.

For anyone interested there is a recall for the PCM on newer expeditions.
