We had a pretty big hail storm last night in Aggieland. We were lucky, and we only got pea sized, not baseball sized like the folks just north and slightly west of us. It got me to thinking, we have enough room for one car in the garage, not both. Google search says they do make hail resistant covers. Anyone have one? What's your experience with it?

My brother had one. Worked great for hail that probably wouldn't have damaged his car. Car got totaled under it from golf ball - baseball size hail.

unless you are protecting something super special, or a car that sits around and not used often, i don't see why it's worth it?

you want to be out trying to fit a cover in every storm that's rolling in? if you happen to be out driving there is no protection anyway.

Build a Porte cochere in front of your garage. Make it big enough for two cars so your garage can then be for storage.

This is the answer. The best cover is one you park in all the time. As someone that follows the weather religiously for hail, I had no idea BCS had any potential for this the other night, so, I wouldn't have put a cover on it anyway and it would be totaled. I built metal carports for all my trucks and vehicles that I don't want damaged. They live there all the time and it helps keep the sun off the paint to boot.

Or if you have room, build a storage shed in your backyard for storage so that you have room in the garage for the cars.

I grabbed a 6-pack of moving blankets on Amazon. Zip tied them together.

I throw some pool noodles under them, and run a few straps under my vehicle to keep the blankets from flying off. Works pretty well.

I can get the blankets on in 2 minutes. The problem is that the blankets weigh 7 million pounds when wet, so they're a bear to mess with afterwards. But..a cheap/quick way to protect from most hail storms.

Our Porte cochere is much wider and deeper than our garage. So nice. Even when my wife doesn't park all the way on her side, there's still plenty of room for my truck. Secure with our driveway gate. Additional decked storage above the garage and Porte cochere accessible by stairs in the garage.

Get rid of all the crap you don't need and use your garage for what it was meant for - car storage.

Zero reason to keep all the stuff most people hang onto.

1 1/2 car garage. Wife drives a Tahoe. I don't have a bunch of crap.

Most garages have to be empty to fit two large vehicles in them...and sometimes that's still not possible. My truck isn't fitting with my wife's SUV, no matter how empty it is.

Also, that's great if you have one or two cars. My household has 4. Can't get them all in there.

I have a Hail Protector for a Jeep Grand Cherokee (we no longer have). It is the best thing on the market and works awesome. It would bounce a bowling ball.

Happy to sell it, especially if you're in the SAT area.

I covered my car with U-haul packing blankets. This has always been adequate in the past, but we had golfball sized hail Saturday, so it got dinged pretty good. Unfortunately I didn't get the windshield covered, and it got two really good hits too.

You laugh, I've done that with my old truck. Protected the cab, but the flip-up bed cover looked like someone took a ballpeen hammer to it
