My wife's aunt & uncle want to sell their 2018 Toyota 4Runner SR5 that has roughly 55K miles. Oil changes done at the dealership, white paint still looks great (minus a little scratch on the passenger door), no accidents, AC blows cold, and rides great.

The aunt checked on KBB & got a range from $31K to $34K.
I checked Carvana & they were offering $27K.
The aunt & uncle went over to Toyota of Boerne & they initially offered them $20K but as the aunt & uncle got up to leave the dealership bumped it up to $28K.

I'm just looking for guidance on what kind of realistic price they should be getting for this car. Thanks for y'all's help!

Start at $32k and go from there.

get a carmax quote as well for a cash offer. then take to a dealership and negotiate with that.

1000% agree.
The Aunt & Uncle are both in their mid 70s & the uncle is dealing with cancer. It's become a hassle for him to climb in & out of the 4Runner which is why they are looking to sell it.

From what the Aunt told me they had her keys & were playing games not giving them back to her, wanting to get a deal done. She brought her spare set of keys and said they were going to leave and let the police know that they were refusing to give back their property. That's when the original keys magically appeared.

Selling a car to Carvana is about the easiest thing you can do. Choose the home pick up option. It's worth it.

They come and do a quick check of the car. Sign over the title and they give you a check. They load up the vehicle and they are gone. Takes 15-20 mins.

Agree it's probably worth $26-27k. I'd take $28kon trade if they aren't crushing them on the car they're buying.

You should take charge of a private sale. It will command 30 and be competitive

List it on Reddit 4Runner. Never Facebook which is scammer central

That Reddit forum is much better than 99% of topic forums

When you say a cash offer, do you mean also from Carmax? We are about to buy a new car, first since before Covid, and will be trading in my wife's 2016 Highlander. Want to go in armed with as much information as possible.

Let me know when you plan to sell your Highlander; we might be interested in buying it for our teen daughter. Maybe we could beat the offers you get by a %.

Yes. Go online and get an offers from CarMax and Carvana at least. The dealership will try to low ball you every time. Factor in the 6.25% savings on tax on a new car you get from a dealership trade in. Also get a credit union new car interest rate loan pre approval too.

Always have something to negotiate with.

Aggiepaintrain is a good person to deal with as well for selling a car.

Came here to reply to this regarding Toyota of Boerne. Great facility but tactics are crap.

Went there to test drive a used Grand Highlander they had advertised on there website for a specific price. Coordinated with salesperson on time for test drive, drove out there with my wife and 2 week old baby, and car was magically not on the lot. Fine, we will talk out the door pricing (buy it sight unseen). They try to add over $8k in dealer crap onto the advertised price. I tell them to remove it then we can talk. They refuse. I confirm that they are unwilling to sell a vehicle for the price they have on their website, which already has a bunch of add-ons. They agree and we walk.

Bought an identical car that same day from another dealership.
