Just recently purchased a used F150. Of course, the dealer only had one key fob. Has anyone had any luck with a third party vendor or is it always best to go through Dealer/Ford? Thanks in advance.

I used the service that Costco is affiliated with. They usually park outside the Costcos every 4-6 weeks rotating. You buy it inside at the cashier. Took like 5 minutes. Way cheaper than the dealer.

I know there's other good options too that aren't the dealer.

If you're in the Houston area, my locksmith works the SW side.

He can get you a key or ask if he will let you bring your own.

The last time It happened to me I pressed the dealer for a 2nd key because the one I got for my F150 wasn't even the "master" key - couldn't change my entry code without a lot of hassle among other things. Originally we agreed to get me one at their "cost". Eventually, they just programmed and gave me one after I went asked to talk to the sales manager in the middle of the dealership.
As I've said before, if buying a used vehicle, I make that part of the negotiation. Bought a Genesis from a Volvo dealer and they weren't real happy, but they got me a 2nd key.

If you bought from a Ford dealer, I would go and try to have a reasonable conversation with them and get them to give you one at their "cost". Of course, that might be what you would pay from Costco - I don't know.

Depending on the year you can do it yourself with Forscan. I bought some of off Amazon and was able to do it with Forscan in just a couple minutes. Youtube will have a laundry list of walk throughs.

Ahh, good call. I bought a pre-owned GX a couple of weeks ago that came with only one fob, so I've been looking for a cost-effective source for an emergency spare.

So basically anytime a car gets traded in, the dealership just pockets one of the keys so they can sell it later at an obscene price? Is that the scam because it seems like the scam?

I think they got a lot of impulse trades where the owner didn't bring both keys and claim they will bring the second key and never come back.
