I have found a decent 1979 Kawi KZ 1300, which is an in-line 6 cylinder muscle bike produced from the late '70s to the early '80s. I am thinking about getting it and making it a long term project bike, a restomod if you will. Updated forks, shocks, brakes and the like.

Has anyone owned one or ridden one that has any info, good or bad, about this model? It is a fairly rare bike to find and there is seldom one up for sale. Thanks for any info.

Sheet, why not just get a boss boss with an LS?!

Dad had a CBX1000, similar Honda, and I can't imagine how fast it was. He got hit head on and survived relatively unscathed. Just a compound leg fracture.

If I could find a CBX I would prefer it since it is air cooled. Wow, you dad must have been living right when he got hit.

Will do. I am thinking about documenting the disassembly and rebuild/restomoding that I plan on doing. Only thing I am worried about is if the engine is free. If it isn't, that will change things for sure. I am looking forward to it.

My uncle almost killed himself on this model of bike after seeing my best friends dad on it. My best friends dad is Steve wise, world champion super bike and motocross, so he could handle a bike like this

My uncle could not lol

Respect the throttle and see if you can replace the braking system with something newer and stronger

Part of my plan right now is to replace the stock forks with some much newer upside down forks and the brakes that will come with them. I want twin piston calipers on both sides up front. I will have to see what I can do with the back brake, but as long as it is working fine that should be more than good enough since the fronts do all the heavy work. I will also use steel braided lines instead of the old rubber ones.

Making newer triple clamps work with the older headstock is going to be fun, as I doubt the bearings and headstock length are going to be easy to match.

Out back I will put new Ohlins or Fox shocks on in lieu of trying to refurbish the old ones. It is a shaft drive, so not a lot of changes can/will be made to the rear of the bike.

I am going to keep the dual exhausts, but will change the canisters to modern ones and they will be much more upswept instead of low to the ground.

Everything is going to be disassembled for cleaning/fixing/polishing/painting except the engine and transmission. If the engine is seized and I cant free it, then I guess that will get disassembled too, but wish me luck on that.

Didn't they have a model that was a police bike, or was that the KZ1000?

My brother had a CB900F and was a big fan of Freddie Spencer.

Some ran the 1300, bust most all Kawasaki police bikes were the KZ1000P.
