Looking at purchasing a used one. Year 2022 or newer is latest body style. Anyone with experience with these? Reliable?

Before anyone jumps on and says something about CVT this and that, the 2022 is the fifth gen Pathfinder with the ZF 9-speed auto.

I have a 2018 4th gen with the CVT, and it's been incredibly reliable and perfect for us for 6.5 years and 70,000 miles. Engine has a ton of power. Interior space and seating are great, you can fit adults in the third row. I've towed 6x12 dual axle uhaul trailers, towed our golf cart to galveston, etc.

Thanks for the feedback. I've read about the transmission concerns with the CVT. The only concern i have heard about the latest model is rear brake pads that wear prematurely.

Looking at a 2023 platinum model with around 40k miles.

I can't speak to the Fifth gen, but the brakes seem very undersized for the size of vehicle, likely parts bin sharing with Altima, etc, although I haven't verified it. Rear brakes are comically small discs and pads, so it's no wonder why they wear quickly.

Anecdotally, I replaced rear pads twice during our ownership: 30k and 60k miles

My wife has a Kicks. Not familiar with the Pathfinder. But I'm very nervous about the CVT, and didn't research all the problems (mostly via Scotty Kilmer YouTube) until after I bought her the Kicks.

I have a 2022. I am so so so so happy with it!!!!

I bought the middle trim package because I did not want a sunroof and didn't need all the bells and whistles. Would have liked the a/c seats tho.

Loves: interior, infotainment, speed, looks, capacity. Carried adults in 3rd row comfortably when needed on rare occasions. Love the seat-tip mechanisms 1 button push. Interior incredibly spacious with all seats down. Comfy to drive. We also own a Highlander and I prefer the Nissan. I have small stature and don't feel loose goosey in the drivers seat. Teen daughter drives the Highlander. Great service at Gunn Nissan. Price comparable to Highlander and Honda, Mazda etc you just have to pick what you prefer personally.

Small Gripes: wish the middle trim had a/c seats, the 3rd row is very dark and cavernous since it has no pass through. My son Loves it for road trips ha ha. If you needed it all the time it would be a pain. I think you can choose the pass through captains chairs as an option but it was not a priority for us.

Does 40k seem high miles? I have 37k or so on my 2022.

I've got a 2016 Nissan Murano 89,000 miles with the CVT. Had been a great car until 2 day ago. Check engine light came on and the mechanic found metal shavings in the transmission fluid. Between that and the code that was spit out I need a new transmission. Roughly $7800 to replace. Not worth it on a $11k car. So now I'm car shopping.

My brother had a 2018 Pathfinder, the transmission gave out at 122k miles as another data point. Also a CVT.

Hope you have better luck.

My boss has a Rock Creek and it's pretty awesome. Super comfortable, great balance of options and price, decent 3rd row for what it is. I'd totally consider one if I was in the market for something similar

Did you and/or your brother service the CVT at 50-60k miles?

I took ours in for CVT service at the dealer at around 55k miles. If I plan to fight extended CVT warranty battles later, I at least want it documented that the dealer maintained it.

I am mentally prepared to replace the car around 120k miles anyways, which for us would be about 10-11 years of ownership. Probably will be ready for something different anyways at that point.

For your Murano, it might be worth reaching out to Nissan to see if they'll offer a warranty coverage. They had previously extended CVT coverage to 10yr/120k on some models.

It was serviced @ 54k. But that was also almost 5 years ago. I don't drive the car much. Can't tell you what my brother did.

Thanks for the info on Nissan. Not even sure who I'd reach out to. The local dealer? Nissan Corp?

Found this:

https://openclassactions.com/settlements/nissan-cvt-settlement.php

It mentions your year model Murano, so maybe worth parsing through as well as talking to local dealer and maybe even the Nissan customer care number.

Thanks. 2 diff class actions specifically state 84 months and 84,000 miles. I'm sitting at 89,xxx. And it just failed. Seems about right.
I'll still reach out to em and see where it leads me. Can't hurt. Appreciate the info.

We have a '22 purchased in Oct '21 with 89,000 trouble free miles. Needs its second set of rear pads now, plan on doing that in the next week or two. Have had zero issues with the car. This is the third Nissan we have owned, first without the CVT and all have been reliable. Just purchased a '21 Rogue for my daughter (has the CVT), not concerned.
