Got an issue I can't figure out. 2014 Escape 4x4. Had it aligned and a couple of weeks later I noticed the steering wheel is 15* off and got hill start assist not available and traction control lights. Took it back to the shop and they found the jam nut on the tie rod was loose. Buttoned it up and lights went away.

When the lights came on, the rear end felt like it was in 4x4 mode, and still feels that way. When making a sharp turn from a stop, it feels like it has a positrac rear end that is locked. Anything over 20mph, or a slight turn, and it doesn't feel that way. Lifting the rear and spinning one side gets opposite rotation on the other. I'm at a loss. Don't really want to take it to the dealer for diagnosis.

If you are in the Austin area. Jackson was a Ford tech at a major Ford dealership for several years.

Pulled the prop shaft and the problem went away, so either a bad transfer case or something is commanding 4x4 to stay engaged. Can't find anything online or anyone else that has had the same problem. Prolly just gonna run in FWD mode and blow off the 4x4.

When did you change the fluid in the PTU last?

Unknown. I bought it 2 months ago as a beater. All fluid service is on the schedule this month.

Maybe look to make sure your PTU has a drain and fill plug

Did you verify all four tires are the same size and condition?

PTU is supposed to have a plug. All tires are new. Spoke to a circus advisor at CS Ford and he confirmed that intelligent 4x4 should only engage when it detects wheel slip on the front. This thing was engaging on flat dry roads at 10% throttle when going straight.
