Man. Remember when Jalopnik was a car enthusiast site and not just a landing spot for failed "journalists" to rant about politics? I 'member. Probably 10+ years ago now.

Autopian is a decent one to follow.

The worst was my company Suburu Outback. You had to go through a series of menu screens to kill it. On my car and truck my hand goes from start directly to the disable button without even thinking about it. Dumbest thing they ever mandated on a car

Has anyone ever tried one of these? It presses the auto start/stop button after engine start to disable the mode.

Been longer than that. It started going to **** about the time they fell in love with anything Tesla when it was the original car for greens.

Yes, on a 2025 f150. I ordered the part from Amazon. Really simple to install.

I might be the only person on this entire site that the auto shutdown doesn't bother. It was on my 22 3.0 GM pickup and I just lived with it until I didn't even notice it. To be fair I only drove the truck for 3 years so I didn't keep it long enough to know if it would cause premature starter wear.

Btw, off topic but during the late 80's early 90's it seemed like my dad was constantly replacing starters on our work trucks. I haven't replaced one on a truck in years. Better quality?

The one good thing about ordering my wife's expedition at the end of the china virus is that they were still doing the stop/start delete on the 23 expeditions.

From what I could find, it wasn't mandatory until 2023, but there are still some cars that don't have it.

I have the auto stop in my car and don't give it a second thought. My stop timer is up near 30 hours. In the big picture it may have saved two tanks of gas.

It doesn't bother me either. I have it on my '22 chevy half ton with the 2.7 turbo. I've never understood why some people are so vehemently against it.

I hate it because I want immediate response when I have to turn into traffic on I-45 from a side street. I don't want that extra 1.5 seconds for the car to have to restart and decide to go.

My wife's Highlander has the feature. I usually turn it off when I am driving.

Interesting. It never dawned on me different vehicles might not restart the same. Mine is almost instant. As soon as I start to let off the brake it is restarted before I can move my foot over to the accelerator. No delay at all if a quick maneuver is needed.

Have a link to the one you ordered? Maybe even the video install guide?

One of the ones I found that's popular online won't work for my 25 since they relocated the button to left of the steering wheel.

In Texas summers the 12v AC will not cut it.

Mine never shuts off in the summer. I'm always hot so I have the A/C blasting all the time. If the A/C is going, it won't shut off during a stop. So it really only operates maybe 5 months out of the year.

If you're willing to help me with it, sure I'd love to eliminate the double honk upon exiting and a couple other things too. I just get weary about doing forscan myself for the first time

In my experience, 2017 and older vehicles have a dash or console switch to easily disable the auto start/stop. After that it appears more difficult.

Wish it would all go away.

I don't think Forscan will disable auto/start stop on 21+ F150s.

I think 23 was the last year ford had the stop/ start delete as a line item on the window sticker. I didn't order one but looked at all the window stickers online and made a list of F 150s with the delete to find one local.

My wife's 23 gx 460 doesn't have it either. I don't recall seeing stop/ start in any other Lexus but not sure why.

I will see if I can find it? My button is located to the left of the steering wheel and above the headlight switch.

I bought it from Amazon. It wasn't the cheapest, around $70? It came with basic instructions

The install was simple, remove the lower glove box and you'll see three sets of opaque plugs. The fourth to the right is the one that you unplug then insert the device then reconnect.

The auto start/stop will still illuminate in the instrument cluster when you start the engine.

Edit to add. I lied it was $99 and I'm not smart enough to attach the link

Interesting, could have sworn I saw that 13th gen couldn't be disabled in a forscan tutorial. Maybe it was just an old tutorial. I used the Cobb Accessport on my 2019 Raptor when I went Goosetuned.

I would agree that it wasn't mandated by the gov't; just that the fuel economy was going up and one way to improve things is to improve the 'idle MPG' (aka, remove the 0 from the equation) and you can do that by stopping the engine.

My bigger issue with it was the fact you needed 2 batteries now, instead of one. Twice the replacement costs, because lord knows they aren't making car batteries better today....

There is a law about putting a shut-off on the car if it is left idling a long time:

Senate Bill

Kids and Car Safety

This bill though looks like it is more for 'CO poisoning going into the house' versus 'saving gas in traffic'.

Bill was passed in 2019, so interesting to see why it was passed; law just says it was passed and that DoT to make up the rules.

It seems that most of the start/stop was driven by the fleet average of 54.5 MPG being needed.

Opposite of kid safety IMO. Turning off the car automatically increases the risk of pets and children dying in hot cars. No they shouldn't be left alone, but it happens and turning off the car automatically to save emissions is going to kill many.
