It is time to upgrade my wife's car and it is past due for some new tires. My question, should we replace them now, or just trade it in with old tires?

Does having tires that need to be replaced affect the trade in value more than what it would cost to replace them now?

Save your money, trade in as-is

Trade as-is. Dealer can buy tires at wholesale so no sense in paying retail plus labor to replace to replace for a trade-in.

unless this is a luxury vehicle or something with crazy expensive tires, i'd trade as is.

the expensive stuff might ding you more on trade in value than you expect for worn tires, at least based on what i see dealers on tik tok talking about

Unless you are looking to hide an alignment problem I would skip new/used tires and save your money.

Thanks everyone! This is for a Mazda CX-5, so far from a luxury vehicle. I will save some money and keep the bald tires on it for a little longer.

I will say this for Mazda SUV's over the last 15 years, they have done an excellent job of blending the gaps between great performance, high quality interiors, and fantastic reliability.. I hope the next owner to take care of it feels the same way! Take care, Captain!
