Wanting to rent a Porsche 911 to do the Big Bend Open Road Race.

Anybody ever done this race? Anybody have an idea where I can rent a Porsche 911 for something like this?

I had two cousins do this a few years ago. One was in a yellow C5 Z06. I think he limped to the finish. Had a drivetrain issue about 2/3rds of the way through. The other was in a red '55 (I think) hot rod Chevy Bel Air. He didn't make it far before having an engine problem. He ended on a flatbed.

They're kind of hardcore, so I think they registered for the highest division they could justify and went balls out for a long as they could.

It's a hard race on cars if you push the tech speed limits in whatever your division is.

That's why want to do it in a Porsche - so I won't have any mechanical issues! Haha!

Jokes aside, I'd probably go the slowest division, which is still averaging 110 MPH. That division allows OEM seat belts.

Turo is likely your best bet though most of the listings say no racing.

Just curious, what is your expected budget for this rental?
And are you planning to trailer it there, or drive it there?

Looks like Enterprise's Exotics collection will rent you a 911 for 1 Week @ $2,299.99
700 Miles Over 700 Miles @ $ 0.50 / Mile

20 years ago, I worked with a guy who had been in the USMC in the early 80s. He told me that after something like an 8 month deployment (WestPac cruise), he took the money he saved and rented a Lamborghini for 1 day.

The Lambo came with something really restrictive like 20 miles and some really high amount per mile after that. From memory, I think he said the total price for the rental plus mileage overage was something like $2,500. But he said he had no problem picking up chicks in the Lambo so that made it worthwhile (to him). Most of his mileage was between San Diego and LA.

Same. Looks somewhat fun. basically $1k to drive for 1hr, split up over two sessions, at ~125mph in the "touring" entry class.

The video on YT from last October showed 98% corvettes/f-bodies, with a handful of 911/Caymans, and 2-3 BMWs, a couple rx-8s,etc. Nothing exotic or crazy. Was hoping to see more cool cars in the line up.

I think what I should be asking is - does anybody need a navigator for the BBORR and we can swap drivers on each leg?

The way I see it, renting for $3k is way better than buying a $150k that is going to sit the majority of the time and never get to truly experience driving in the city.

The BBORR seems like a great way to actually open up a car and experience the true performance.

I did rent a turbo s on Turo in LA once and drove it up the coast on Highway 1 and the mountains. Amazing experience and great way to experience the handling of a 911. Did a GT3 at SpeedVegas too, which was incredible. I was holding the car back.

High class facilities

1. Someone is going to hit a deer
2. Someone is going to step on a rattlesnake
3. This is exactly why a company would not rent out a Porsche
