When turning left, my husband always cuts through the turn lane then goes into the correct lane.

When I turn left, I go into the correct lane, never cutting through the turn lane.

Every time he does this, it

A. Annoys me, and

B. Scares the crap out of me since you can't always see if a car is pulling into the turn lane that he is cutting through.


Am I missing something or is he doing it incorrectly?

Every time he does this, I instinctively gasp and panic grab the oh sh** handle. Is that an overreaction?

You're right, he doesn't "always" do it. We live in BCS so there are lots of newly installed medians that prevent him from doing it ALL the time.

But thank you for providing a contrarian POV; I can't wait for him to latch onto that and nothing else when he finds this thread /s

Yep. One day someone sitting in the regular lane of traffic is going to block his view of seeing a car pulling up to the left turn lane. Gonna have an ugly head-on type collision. May not be for years, but his number will come up. Hope none of the kids they pop out later are in the car when it happens.

Also doesn't matter if he's just clipping the corner or pulling entirely into the lane. Same level of illegal. It seems like this guy is kind of stupid. Is he this stupid about other stuff?

Yeah, it's probably annoying, but it happens before I can help myself since my body instinctively thinks we are about to crash into a car that he couldn't see.


I figure if he turned into the correct lane without crossing into the turn lane, then I wouldn't be gasping and grabbing the handle and then he wouldn't get annoyed.

And yeah, grabbing the handle, and worse the gasp, would probably get so old it would cure me of whatever was causing it, or from driving with you. One or the other.

He does not drive a 4-runner and I do not have a Nissan.

He was driving my Kia Telluride last time this happened.

Your husband is the second worst kind of driver on the road, bested only by people who text and drive.

Ask him what he thinks lanes are for when the road is straight.

I had a guy in my rear view mirror yelling at me the other day because he tried to cut the lane. I purposely go faster than the car to my right so they can see me hold my ground.

Edit: I just saw the graphic and I'm thinking of a different scenario. I hate when there are 2 lanes turning left and the outermost lane cuts into the inner lane. Those people get shot whenever the The Purge becomes legal for a day.

It's usually the inner laners swinging wide into the outer lane because they don't realize or care that they are required to stay in the inner lane thru the turn.
