I have a new car, to me anyway. It needs to be detailed. When I search on detailing services, I see that they all offer ceramic coating. Is this a good thing and worth the money? I am in west Houston near Fry Road. Can I get recommendations for a local detail service?

I would definitely recommend ceramic and/or PPF. It makes a huge difference.

Houston Paint Protection did both my PPF and ceramic. Their shop is on N. Shepherd in Independence Heights.

I use Chow's Detailing for details, but I believe they also do ceramic. They are mobile and have a shop on 529 in the Copperfield area. These are the only guys I use.

Highly recommend both!

How do you keep your car clean? If you are willing to hand wash only, ceramic is awesome. If you take your car through a tunnel wash a few times a month, it will strip the ceramic and you just wasted your money.

Also, you can easily do it yourself. I used Gyeon EVO MOHS and had my car done in let than 45 mins. I wipe it down with a no rinse car wash a few times per week and give it big wash about once a month depending on weather. My ceramic is showing no signs of letting up after about 18 months.

If you use drive thru car washes a lot, I don't see the point in ceramic coating a daily driver type car.

I'll not use the drive through washes. I've seen too many complaints about damage to car finishes. The dealer will detail my car but only on weekdays and I work.

This is the right answer. I did this and used Pan the Organizer 8 year on my wife's car and MOHS EVO on mine and my daughters. It's not a hard job but I do recommend waiting for better weather; it is an all day job also the chemistry of the ceramic coat is impacted by humidity so if you don't have a climate controlled area it can be more difficult to apply in the summer. Definitely a DIY job though, you'll appreciate it more. If you pay it'll be around $1500 for the ceramic coating. Don't lay that much.
