Son was in a wreck last week which totaled his car. He is in grad school up in Michigan and graduates in May. Really don't want to buy something decent until he gets through the winter up there and graduates (end of April). Guessing a lease is put of the question so are stuck dealing with the major car rental companies for this type need?

look into Turo. it will be cheaper than the national chains, but for that long a rental you are still gonna pay out the nose.

why not buy a cheap beater? if you can get one for less than Turo would be a better option

Michigan is probably the most lease friendly state in the US. im sure he has a friend whose dad works for the big 3. Use their code and do a 12 month lease or lease Honda civic and turn it in early.

Maybe consider a high mileage Toyota that retains its value really well. Over 6-9 months it won't lose much value.

Like a 125,000 mile tacoma or 4Runner. Then, sell
It when he graduates to get what you really want.

Isn't there a web site where people advertise for people to finish out their lease?

You think one winter in Michigan will wreck a car?

Two words...road salt. Won't wreck it that quick, but it will dramatically shorten the overall life.

Buddy just decided to do a digital nomad lifestyle and went with a long term rental with Sixt since he isn't sure when exactly he will want to leave the US. He said the pricing was solid given that with a rental company everything is taken care of in terms of maintenance.
