I've never had a truck w/a bed cover but I'd like to get one for road trips, camping. Something water resistant and easily retractable. Any suggestions? 5.5' bed.

If that's all you're after, my Gator SRX bedcover was ~ $200.

That's a soft, rollup right? I think I want something a little more rigid.

I've got the one below (they make them for all models).

I like the retractable, because it doesn't fold up and cover the back window, and rolls up out of the way. Lockable and you cant cut through it.

I've had mine about 3.5 years now, and it's still working great. If you do get one, DM me, and I'll tell you a simple thing I did to improve the design.

I got the X cover on amazon for about $600 and I like it. Pretty easy to attach.

Installing a bakflip mx4 tomorrow. Not cheap, but it's supposed to be one of the better ones and every place I've talked to say it's their best seller, fwiw.

For me, security is important since I'll load this with travel stuff for extended driving throughout the country (hopefully not too many dangerous areas, but never know), so I'm not getting a soft top. If they want in, they can still get in with the hard top, but at least Itl require a little more effort.
None of these will be completely water proof, but this should be good enough for most needs.

Go with the Bakflip. The rolling covers take up too much bed space. Even if you don't think you need it.......one day you will

I have a Diamondback which is very heavy duty. You can walk on it.

My biggest issue with bed covers is that they don't keep dust out. I drive daily on gravel roads and dust seeps through the cracks in the bed and tailgate.

These are the best but you pay for them.

Backflip quality is in the toilet after 2020. I recently installed 10 of them for a fleet customer and 7 of them required modifications to close correctly and sit flush. When I called their tech support line, they weren't even phased by it.

Have a diamondback as well it's great and the most weather and theft proof of them all. It is expensive and not super simple to open the whole bed if you need to.

I was wondering how much of a pain it is to open half or more. This is why I've been hesitant to jump on one.

My requirements were:

(1) Hard
(2) Doesn't obscure the rear view window when opened
(3) No vinyl
(4) Doesn't take up space inside the bed when opened

I believe there is only 1 bed cover on the market that meets all of these and it's the Truxedo Sentry CT. I love it!

I went the same direction, but with the BAK Revolver X4S. Basically the same thing.

But that's vinyl right? The CT is heavy duty canvas.

Does the Lomax open all the way up without obstructing vision through the rear window?

Half is pretty easy especially with two people. The gas shocks quick disconnect then it will fold back or you can pull it off and set aside.

I can flip open the first two panels, and get 2/3 of access to the bed. If I want full access, I can remove the entire cover with just me, and it fits mostly under the backseat.

I got a Worksport AL3 trifold cover. Its rigid and seems to do what I need but is sort of a middle price product for middle capability. Not a cheap soft cover but not a super tough cover you can jump up and down on. Easy to install and easy to operate.

You used to be able to buy a weather seal type gasket that went around the tailgate, that kept a lot of the dust out of my last trucks bed.

I've really been pleased with this Undercover Armorflex, that I've had for several months now. A friend has had the same one for about 5-6 years and it's still holding up great.
