Anyone know the best way to handle this..? We live in Dallas county so my son's car is due for a registration renewal. Because Dallas county is an emissions county he needs to get an emissions test in order to get the new renewal. Brazos county isn't an emissions county (they do not even have the equipment to run the tests). Short of dragging the car back to Dallas, anyone know the easiest way to deal with this?

Vehicle Emissions Testing Exemptions | Department of Public Safety

Quote:

(3) The vehicle is registered in an affected county and is primarily operated in a non-affected county, but will not return to an affected county prior to the expiration of the current registration. Under this exception the vehicle will be re-inspected at a vehicle inspection station certified to do vehicle emissions testing immediately upon return to an affected county. Examples of this exception include vehicles operated by students enrolled at learning institutions, vehicles operated by persons during extended vacations, or vehicles operated by persons on extended out-of-county business.

Get renewal at Brazos County tax office. Get inspection next time he returns home.

***Edit***
I haven't tried this myself.

In the past I just got it inspected at Quicker Sticker in BCS without an emissions inspection and it sailed through the state system that it was inspected. Maybe that would still work somehow?

You can renew it online like normal. When it asks you if you're still in Dallas County, like no, and put his current address in there it will send it there.

Doesn't need an inspection at all now, right?

What do you need to register a vehicle in another county?

Just say your out of State and register online it waives the inspection and they mail you the registration.

You can renew your registration by "self-certifying" as the vehicle owner, that you are entitled to renew your Texas registration, but you and your vehicle are currently out-of-state and you are unable to complete the required Texas vehicle emission inspection (if required by the county your vehicle is registered in). Vehicle emissions inspections are required in the following counties: Brazoria, Collin, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Ellis, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Johnson, Kaufman, Montgomery, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson.

You can renew your registration and waive the Texas vehicle inspection requirement either online or by mail.

Online: by self-certifying you are out-of-state
