i may be buying a new truck in the next 60 days. my current ford f-150 has a cylinder issue so it's either a new engine or new truck.

i looked at the f-150 platinum and the toyota platinum/1794. wondering if anyone has done the same recently and or thoughts opinions on other trucks?

primary use is in town (dallas) but have hunting land and i use it to haul light loads, put out deer corn and generally do "truckly" things in a "truckly" manner.

Been looking around as well and don't really have a feel on anything. All manufacturers having major issues.

Ford has issues with transmission (and wet belt in engines if you keep it long enough)

Toyota has issues with engines blowing up. Supposed to be fixed, but still some 2025s that are blowing up.

GM/Chevy have issues with engines(mostly 6.2, but some issues in 5.3) and the just about the same transmission issues as the Fords.

RAM has electrical gremlins

To me it seems like a crapshoot any way you go.

If I were buying new, I would go with a 2026 Ram. At least you get 100k mile warranty on it. Every brand has major problems these days so go with the best warranty.

Looked at All brands in jan 24 before buying an f-150 Lariat with the 3.5L eco boost. Bought the Ford platinum extended warranty thru 125,000 miles for $3,000 extra.
The ford f 150 had by far the most comfortable front seats and leg/ cab room. I do not want a sunroof so went with the lariat. 60,000 miles now and it's never been to the shop. Plenty of power, 18 mpg average and a 36 gallon fuel tank. Has been great.

I'm on my 4th truck in the last 18 months. Went to a GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with the 3.0 diesel. I had a 2021 Silverado with the 3.0 and really missed it. I've said it a hundred times but the 3.0 is hands down the best half ton engine on the market. Smooth, efficient, plenty of power, and seems to be the most reliable.

Have the hybrid Tundras had the same engine issues? I thought it was just the non hybrid ones.

Given the well known reliability issues with most new truck brands, why not hunt for a low mileage used truck? Of course, the main issue I've found with used trucks is most people beat them up right away. Not easy to find clean used trucks, even if the mileage is low.

If looking used I'd heavily recommend Carvana. You get a 7 day no hassle return.

Needs to be an August 16, 2022 or later build date. Most 2022s still got the faulty CDF drum.

For what you're describing, are you set on a full size?

Correct. Thanks for being more specific.

I saw this at Costco today. Honestly I don't need a new truck but this is quite a deal.

Some pretty serious issues with the new LZ0 baby 'Max. Sounds like something causing axial play in the crankshaft and that cratering the thrust bearing and, subsequently, the engine. Most of the time, it requires an entirely new engine which are on back order with trucks sitting at the dealership for months on end waiting on a new engine.

GM has issued a TSB... GM Service Bulletin 25-NA-307.

A lightly used 2024 baby 'Max sounds like the best bet at this point.

What is the budget? The new platinum goes from upper 60s to about 100k.

Some people go insane with the tricked out $100k trucks. To each their own but I agree it's pretty silly.

I'm in a similar boat but am probably closer to EOY. It's either 2026 Ram or 2025/2026 Tundra for me.

Jesus Christ, is GM just incapable of building a decent engine at this point?

Yet there are still a few unsold new ones on dealer lots (according to cars.com) and more with only a few hundred or a few thousand miles that you can find online. I assume most of the latter were demos.

I love my '19, but it is tempting to trade it in on a 24 just to future proof myself for a while.

Thanks to all the clean air/ emissions bs problems our government created. I've settled on getting the 6 yr factory extended warranty on everything new and trading before it runs out.
And keeping my 18 and 19 2500s with the 6.0 gas as long as they keep going.

Yes, the 3.0 and the 2.7 are the most reliable engines in half tons right now. There are no "serious issues" with the bulk of the LZ0's.

I went out test driving new trucks, since CarMax wants to give me a pretty generous price for my '19 Titan. I was planning to just find a 2024 Titan with as low mileage as possible, but I decided to check out my other options. I drove the ford, Chevy and Ram. Skipped the Tundra, because I think it is the ugliest truck on the market.

The 2.7L in the Chevy was terrible. Slow and underwhelming. The V8 was better, but nothing about the Chevy really interested me. Exterior is nice, but the interior was pretty meh for the price.

The F150 was nice. I drove the 3.5L hybrid, and I liked it. The Lariat package was nice, but $73k really is more than I'd like to spend.

I drove the 5.7 hemi and the 3.0 Hurricane in the Ram. The hemi was fine. The Hurricane was impressive. Great acceleration, responsive, and smooth. I really enjoyed it. And I like the Laramie trim. The two tone sea sand and bison leather interior is really nice. And at $15k less than the Lariat, it is a lot of truck for the money.

Unfortunately, I beg to differ. My 25 3.0 Suburban is sitting at a dealer waiting on a new engine due to the thrust bearing failure with no delivery day in sight. Love the engine, but this has been painful. The loaner is a 2.7 Silverado, and it sounds the same as my wife's old Santa Fe. Accelerates slower too. Can't convince the dealer to give us a comparable loaner either. Most they'll do is an Equinox

My buddy had to swap his 3.0 for an entirely new vehicle. Electrical. Wouldn't stop throwing codes and warning lights all over place. Spent more time in the shop than in his driveway after he bought it a month earlier.

His new replacement 3.0 seems to be fine.

just came out of a 2018 longhorn drw, for a 2025 tradesman 3500 srw, would never go back to a luxury vehicle again. Just my two cents.
I live in waco....therefore, I am ready to move elsewhere.
