I'm starting to look for a new to me vehicle, as my 07 Avalanche is literally starting to fall apart on me. At about 280k miles, she's had a good run. With that being said, I'm looking at replacing her with a newer pickup and got to wondering what the different issus for each model year were to help educate me better on possible things I might see with each brand.

I know it gets discussed here on and off, but I've never seen a definitive "guide", so to speak, on what kind of issues each make has. I've found various resources on the web, and various car boards/reddit have some decent input, but I value everyone's opinion on here more as yall usually have a good beat for what's going on in the industry.

I'm looking at model years 21-24/25 and thought this might be a good place to crowd source. I'll list each make, and if you guys want to respond with each model year's issues, I'll update the list as we go. Maybe it'll help those of you looking for newer vehicles on what to watch out for. I'm sure we could do this with every vehicle, but this one will just be focused on 1/2 ton pickups.

Any others worth mentioning? Let me know if yall think this is worthwhile. Otherwise I'll just default to a white booooooooooooost and call it a day.

They are all good and all suck differently. Pick what you like and get a good deal on then learn what sucks about it and do what you can to mitigate.

Just asking Grok or CGPT to do this for you. They'll summarize consumer reports if you ask it.

Buy the one you like best. New and get the longest manufacture's warranty for an extra 3,000. Too much tech and expensive repairs today not to get the extended warranty.
My pick was a 23 F150 with a ford platinum extended care warranty for 6 yr/ 125 k mile. I'll trade it before the warranty is out. 62k miles so far and it's never been in the shop.

2026 Rams come with a 10 year/100k warranty so that'd be my choice

For a minute I thought I was on the Outdoor Board, what with all the buying brand new $80k trucks and blowing waaaaay past the intended budget. While I appreciate yall being high rollers and able to afford the latest iteration of these new vehicles, my goal is lower price used vehicles in the aforementioned year range.

As much as I am and this board is a fanboy of the 3.0 LZO Duramax, mine is currently in the shop after throwing an oil pump valve code. New maintenance bulletin released earlier this month says a thrust bearing is going out very quickly on 25s & 26s. Just got word from the dealership validating that the bearing is put of whack and I'm on the back order list for a brand new engine at 6200 miles. Love this engine, but it's off to a rough start unfortunately.

Yikes, that sucks. Hopefully the new engine has this issue resolved and you get many years of service out of it after the repairs.

Agreed. The service rep said that the new one has the issue rectified supposedly, but I'll be on eggshells for a while.

Buy whichever one you like best, everything nowadays has issues. Amd when I say everything, I mean everything. Cars, trucks, tractors, combines, gators, computers. It seems manufacturers have forgotten what quality control is.

This board loves its Fords so that's what you'll see a lot of but I like my Silverado with the 2.7 liter turbo. No issues in 3 years so far. Great gas milage to boot.

Geez. New engine on a brand new truck. And the Duramax is the engine I want to go with.

Was the fix to switch this one to thicker motor oil too?

/sarcasm

But seriously, I hope it was a more legitimate fix than the motor oil "fix" for the 6.2.

Haha hopefully not just a thicker oil. Was told that the bearing is upgraded by the rep, but haven't read anything about that online. Demonworks said he leans towards it being a manufacturing issue that is now fixed.

Engine may not have issues but you have to contend with the 10 speed transmission that has been a disaster.
