thanks for the ID.

my neighbor asked if we called the police... technically, it's a "free" library so not illegal - just a punk.

unfortunately, i'd wager he'll be back. swapped cameras for some better ones so maybe next time i can see a license plate/face.

he also wore a short sleeve shirt with his gloves, turned his lights off down the street to drive and park under a street light...

I hope he is caught and placed against a stone wall and has to read "The Lottery" aloud while kids collect and pile up smooth large stones, then act out the final scene as he finishes reading.

I told the librarian (Mrs cjo) that for the foreseeable future we should just fill it with 50 copies of the The Book Thief… but she let me know that book resells for $5 and it would defeat the purpose.

Could be an amazon delivery person. We've had some issues with these gig-worker amazon drivers taking bikes and stuff. It is frustrating that they'll be roaming the neighborhood all day/night, but people keep buying junk on amazon so I think problems like this will just continue.

I never thought about the fact that people may steal from the "free" neighborhood libraries just to take them to sell at the used book store. I just moved from Eugene, OR back to TX and my neighborhood in OR had plenty of these, I'm surprised the "unhoused" people weren't taking them all.

Side note, I decided to read the Stephen King "Dark Tower" series a few years ago and was almost finished with Book IV and was walking the dog and looked into one of these free libraries and there was a copy of Book V. I didn't think much of it as I took it (I didn't replace one that day, but they have gotten plenty from me on other days) but after I got it home I noticed that there were a few color illustrations throughout the book. I looked it up and at the time the things were going for ~$50 on ebay for one in average condition, score!

More like "Dork Tower" lol. Seriously though I thought those things were trash cans and people were putting their books in them because they were trash. I guess I'll stop stuffing my beer cans in them

ha! mrs reads like 3 books a week. she gets a bunch of advanced copies so she typically has "good" stuff out there.... mixed in with the garbage and pamphlets people leave. no beer cans yet though.
