I have a 2006 Silverado with a 10+ year old aftermarket stereo. It has wired carplay that constantly disconnects anytime I hit a bump which moves the connection to my phone. It is also very bulky/heavy and doesn't sit flush with the dash.

Amazon has a ton of these cheap, Chinese stereos that are about half the depth, making me think they're lightweight and will look better. Plus it's wireless carplay, front USB connections, and the screw holes are integrated into the frame (no dash kit). For example,

I figured they knocked this design off someone, but I don't see any name brands with this design. Has anyone bought one of these?

I know a couple people who have bought $50-$75 units off Amazon, and they work ok. One of them has a mount that goes into the CD slot, so the screen sits fairly flush and he didnt have to do any install..

All that said, for $200-300ish, you can get a compatible unit, with pre-wired kit and dash mount from Crutchfield, made specifically for a 2006 Silverado. We've used them a couple times, and they are fantastic at answering the phone and helping with any questions.

if you do use them, double-check to make sure it's wireless or wired Carplay.

But all that to say...try a cheapo from Amazon, and it's a free return if it doesnt work. Can't go wrong there.

That is what I have now. The dash kit doesn't sit right because the stereo is so heavy and you're trying to support the entire stereo from the front screws. I even tried replacing the dash kit, but have the same problem.

That's why I thought the amazon one would be better since it doesn't have so much depth. And the screws are integrated into a metal frame supporting the stereo. Instead of a plastic dash kit.

Gotcha. Try it out and let us know how it works. I think I'm going to replace the head unit in our 2017 Mustang, so I'm curious to know how reliable it is.

I have one from Joying in my 2014 Tacoma, I'm pretty happy with it. Installation was just plug and play, no splicing needed.

I have a full depth unit like your current one because i wanted to still be able to play CD's when the world ends.

I installed the prior version of this one in my van about 5 years ago and have been happy with it. I picked it specifically for the shallower depth. It's still a wired phone connection however.

Here's the wireless version, but it's $100 more.

I have a strict 'no chinese junk' from amazon rule, although it is nearly impossible to stick to it everywhere. I have never used the big flat ones but I have installed several Kenwood media players. I started just doing those since they all do wireless carplay now and the ones that don't have adaptors to do it. I don't think I have listened to a CD or actual OTA radio/HD radio......ever. I always stream all my talk radio and music.

Most of these Android base tablet units are made by the same manufacturer in China.

I have a teyes in my Lexus.

You just have to find one that has good software. Some of them are buggy as hell.

I replaced the unit in my '15 4Runner. It was light years better than the OEM. Only had it for about 2 years, but no issues and installation was simple (I had never replaced a car stereo)

When my radio unit innmy Honda fit died, I had to get something like this off Amazon, as a factory replacement was both obsolete and ludicrously expensive. Fortunately someone had designed a flat panel dash unit that custom replaced the integrated factory unit with the face plate that was part of the dash itself. It has worked well. I now have no CD, but do have a modern 8" flat touch screen radio with BT/wireless and gps navigation whereas before it was just a crappy cd player and radio with an auxiliary Jack input. It was cheap on Amazon.

Yes, it seems these are tablets adapted to car stereos. It doesn't seem teyes makes one for my year Silverado.
