This board might chastise me, but I took the easy way out with my 2014 F-150

I drove over to CarToys and let them do it while I drank beer at the bar across the street. I was going the whole way as I wanted Android Auto and with access to Google maps, etc. But ultimately they have all the tools and tricks. Yes there were plenty of DIY YouTube videos around, but I didn't want to deal with a bunch of 1 off tool purchases or "if you don't have the tool you can use." I ate wings, stared at scantily clad ladies, and drank beer. A few hours later I had a double din touch screen with all of the new stuff.

Seems like it would be difficult to use your existing head unit and do everything you are wanting.
