Got a call on a truck that came into the junkyard, 2004 Silverado 2500HD Duramax. Was told it did not run, thought to be a computer problem. Here's how it looked when it landed in the yard.

Pulled a carfax on it, and turned out to be a one owner truck with only 204k miles. Hard to tell in the pictures, but its exceptionally clean. No dents or scratches, clean interior with no rips, stains, or tears. Was told the box in the cab was a new replacement computer. Either way, went and ahead and bought the truck on the spot and hauled it to my place. Upon further inspection, it was an FICM in the box and the box was labeled unable to repair. A good sign that the story passed the smell test and maybe thats all that was wrong with the truck.

Pulled the FICM case apart and found the damage. Sent these pictures to re-circuit electronics to see if they could repair it, vs going with a used unit or 1300 dollar new one.

Crazy what some people send to the junkyard.

Looking forward to the build. I inherited my dad's LLY back in August a few years earlier than I expected and have been going through all the deferred maintenance. Thankfully they're relatively easy to work on.

Re-Circuit got back to me pretty quick and told me he could fix it, so I mailed it off the next morning. Can't speak highly enough of this business. They have a test truck and send pictures of the repair and a video clip of the truck running on your repaired FICM. Here's the clip he sent me.

You never know when something is one "you motherf-er!!" away from the trash heap. That truck probably left someone and the family stranded one too many times....and off it went. Staying tuned.....

Got it back in the mail pretty quick, and put it back on the truck. Pretty wild, a fuel line connects to either side of the FICM on these. The batteries were completely drained when I got it, but were date coded 2024 and matching. So I nursed them back on a charger while I waited for the repair. This is my first Duramax, so was surprised to find a factory fuel primer setup. I would have been cranking my cummins and bleeding injectors half the day to bring it from the dead. Either way, turned it over two times and the Duramax came to life! Sounds like a new truck, very quiet and smooth idle.

Any pictures? Wish it was an LBZ, but I won't kick a gift horse in the mouth.

What a find!

Congrats on the new truck. Remove that chrome stuff and polish her up real nice and you've got yourself a mighty clean truck. Personally i'd put stock wheels back on it.

My buddy's LLY has nearly 400k on it so you've got plenty of miles left on her!

Stock wheels are on it now. Thread is a little behind. I did attempt removing the chrome with a heat gun today and it did not go so well.....

Grabbed some stock wheels at a pick and pull on half off day for 160 bucks. Ordered a like new set of tires from utires.com for 450 or so. Should be able to sell the bro wheels and break even on the deal. As it sat last night, pre chrome removal hell. I have the center caps, but waiting on the proper lug nuts to come in to m ount them

The amount of double sided adhesive for those chrome strips is…..adequate.

How tight are you with the local junkyard that they call you when something rolls in?

I've made friends with a few of the key people at a couple of yards over the last couple of years. Was lucky enough to be the first one to see this particular truck, he said he knew it was one I would want as soon as he saw it and called me.

Rear tail's were smoked, so ordered some new ones .TYC brand I think. Also fixed the tailgate latch/bezel as it was driving me nuts. Common on these. Think I'm going to remove the bowtie mud flaps as well.
