Friend is a mech at local Lexus dealer.

He says every single on they get on trade with more than 50,000 miles is leaking oil. They hate them b/c they're a pain to work on, parts or expensive and usually just send them to auction rather than try to list them for sale.

Mate, the only Defender 130 I know about is a Defender 130T Ute (preferably with a tray).

One of my mates drove one of these coast to coast across the Nullabor supporting a Postie Bike rally.

They're good to look at but every Land Rover seems to have reliability issues.

Lease it for the length of the warranty and turn it in. They fall off a cliff in depreciation as well so you won't want to own it

I think he's talking old body style, so warranties are probably difficult to come by. I've heard they aren't the most reliable, but make up for it some by being somewhat easy to wrench.

Oh, my mistake. I didn't realize they were already out, and I assumed you meant a classic.

I followed the development of the "new" Defender up until about a year or two after its release. I quit following when review after review talked about reliability problems. And considering Land Rover's track record, I wouldn't expect anything different. I definitely wouldn't keep it past the warranty date. There's a reason why new Range Rovers are $150k while a three-year model is a third of that price.

We have a 2018 Discovery with 89k miles and it has been my favorite car I have ever owned. Only 1 real issue, they had a plastic angled piece that routed coolant to the engine. It, and every other one on any pre 2021 models broke and it cost a ton to replace the part as it was hard to access. The replacement was metal so it should last forever. The car has seen plenty of legit off road, plenty of washboarded gravel roads at 50mph, and plenty of long trips. It does everything well. It is also the best snow/ice car I have ever seen. That car has an 1800 pound payload, can go through 36 inches of water, can handle real off road with the air suspension, and can drive all day at 85 mph while getting over 20mpg. My favorite car ever.

We also have a 2022 Defender 90 that I absolutely love. It has the bigger of the 2 V6 engines (P400) and is at 22k miles. The only issue with that car is that it tends to get broken windshields as the rock here in colorado is much harder than windshields. We did 3 windshields before finally saying f it, we will have a cracked windshield. But it is Colorado, every windshield in this state is cracked. We replaced the awful stock tires with 33 inch wrangler duratracs and now it goes anywhere, has awesome real life power, and generally kicks butt.

The Defender is the most well built car I have ever driven. It just feels different from anything else and makes a Ford, Chevy, Toyota seem like such crap.

These are my 2 favorite cars i have ever owned and I have had 30-40 cars in my life including Porsche, Lexus, Toyota, Ford, Ram, Honda, Mercedes, International, Chevy, Isuzu, and Subaru.

I have never heard of an oil leak in a LR except the 25 year old ones. The do have occasional issues but no more than any other car I have owned.

That's actually good to hear. I would love to get a Defender, but I'd never heard many positive reviews from owners.

I mean if depreciation falls off a cliff and it's that well known and accepted than it will be accounted for in the terms of a lease.....

Banks/lenders aren't really in the business of losing a crap ton of money on cars just to lease them for ****s and giggles.....

A lot of it is probably WHERE I live. If I were in Texas I would not buy a land rover as they just aren't needed. The chance of a Texan driving more than 100 miles off road over the entire lifespan of a vehicle is very small and you never see snow or ice. Texans do fine with a Tahoe, Suburban, Expedition or whatever that Jeep thing is.

In my neighborhood people buy two cars... they buy Teslas and they buy Defenders. The Tesla people stay in when it snows or if they have to go off road, the Land Rover people don't worry about it. Very few pickup trucks here as you can't drive them in snow, a few Jeeps, a few SUVs, etc.

Of all my neighbors, everyone loves their land rovers around here. Again though, a lot is probably due to their ability to handle bad weather better than anything else. Land Rovers are insanely good in snow and ice.

If I were to buy ANY car made today for myself to own for the next 5-8 years I would get a P400 or maybe V8 Defender 110. They are just different from anything else. When you sit and hold the wheel of that car it is just right. To be as proficient off road and still drive that great on road is unmatched.

Yeah we bought our Defender 2 years ago for 55k and got offered 49k a few months back when my wife thought about trading it for a 110

What OTD price y'all think a dealer would take for a 25 defender 110 v8?

Horrific. No analog controls is a complete failure. Cadillac went this route in 2015-16 and it failed so badly they reversed course and brought buttons and knobs back.

This makes those cars (I own one) look downright luddite in comparison though.

And this trend of having panoramic UI screens is so overkill and unnecessary as to be laughable. And dangerous as hell. I wouldn't be surprised if that gets penalized in safety reviews.

And that steering wheel float. My god.

I've been looking at the Ineos Grenadier. I've seen a couple of them in Dripping Springs. They look nice!
