In Houston (Timbergrove), 290k miles on original engine, second transmission. I have asked before but prompting again. There is coolant being consumed, to a lesser extent oil. The water pump and radiator have both been replaced some fairly recently and not related to this. There is no drips on the ground. All that to say, I am fairly certain this is head gasket and/or castech cracked head. There is also lifter tick.I am looking to get this coolant consumption in check and address lifter tick. Recommendations for shop(s) to do the work? Slight preference for proximity to price. In my individual research, it seems Scroggins Machine is the reccomendation.

Yep, that's going to be your issue I am pretty sure. I wouldn't worry too much about the lifter tick until you get the cracked head fixed and run a couple of oil changes through it. Coolant getting in the oil thins it and can gum up the hydraulic lifters and they will leak the oil out of them - or not fill up correctly.

I tend to agree. As much as I'd like to do this work myself, I won't be able to as of now. So any reccos toward this would be appreciated.
