We got a X5 e50 last December, so a little over a year in. I haven't owned a ton of cars, but this X5 is super comfortable and very nice. The air suspension is amazing, it is incredible on the highway and the performance is good for what it is. When I say good, I'm comparing to a X3 Comp and Cayman GT4. Both of those are just another level. I really, really like the looks with the wheels/tint job I had done. I'm a BMW fan, so didn't even look at other PHEV options.
One of the main reasons we got this was to tow our camper out west. I am very pleased with its overall towing ability. We are able to charge the X5 at campgrounds while the camper is also hooked up, which is kinda like getting fuel.
Overall, I'm very happy with the X5 e50. We didn't buy our first tank of gas until we had it for 6 months, and haven't bought a tank of gas since September given we drive it mostly locally around Houston. The only time we've bought gas is on road/camping trips. However, one quirky thing that really gets me is that the level 1 charger basically doesn't work if the ambient temperature is over about 85. BMW hasn't yet admitted this, but anecdotal evidence on message boards/etc pretty much confirms it. So far, this has only been an issue for me in May/June and Sept/Oct while we're in Houston. We're in Northern Utah most of the summer where it rarely gets above 82 at our house, so not an issue at all up there. We pay 7.5 cents/kwh at our place in Utah, which makes it very economical up there. Our rate in Houston is 15 cents/kWh, so not nearly as econmical as Utah.
I *want* to keep this car for a long time. If we decide to keep after the warranty expires, I will consider an extended warranty for 2-4 years longer or trade it in on something else. The towing wear and tear will definitely be a deciding factor.
