There's no way I'm paying a bunch of money for a GM engine right now.
why?
They're crapping out left and right? They basically all have issues, especially the 6.2L and 3.0L with bearing failures. The 5.3L is a little more reliable, but is still prone to lifter failure that they've never solved. The 2.7L 4 banger might be the most reliable Chevy engine at the moment.
OP, the 2023+ Raptor should be pretty reliable. At that point they had fixed the cam phaser issues and the 10R80 CDF drum failure. Just make sure you change the oil early and often. Turbos can still fail at any time, just like any turbo vehicle. I highly recommend getting the Ford extended warranty if you're buying new or from a Ford dealership.
Also be aware that you need to change the transmission, transfer case, and differential (both) fluid at least every 50K miles, preferably 30K with the transmission. Additionally the shocks need to be rebuilt every 50K miles. For the latter there's a place here in Texas that will ship you rebuilt shocks, you or a shop installs, and then you ship the originals back. Should be around $1K.
My last truck was a 6.2L Silverado and now I have a 2019 Raptor. Both engines have great torque and decent top end power. My 6.2L got better highway economy, but the average MPG is basically identical. The 6.2L sounds much better, but add a blow off valve and remove the turbo silencers and you won't mind the exhaust sound as much.
If you decide to go with the Raptor and want to tune it, Goosetune is the gold standard. Their website has a lot of good information about Raptor engine mods.
