We test drove the TX and the Land Cruiser yesterday. The difference felt like driving a car vs a truck / Tahoe. Think we're leaning towards the LC or the GX. The pricing regardless of all 3 is insane

Does the Tx have the 4 cylinder turbo that Toyota seems to be pushing on everything?

According to this they also had the best selling luxury sedan in the US last year, the ES. Irrelevant.

I'm not sure having 107 other models of vehicle that outsell the ES is a claim of relevancy here.

And the Nissan Kicks actually outsells the first Lexus on the list (the RX), and I literally thought the Nissan Kicks was a discontinued joke that redstone trolls this board with. I've literally never seen one.

save yourself $10,000 (at least) and go drive the Grand Highlander. It's the same SUV.

That's why I said "luxury sedan". The fact that the top selling "luxury sedan" only sold 40k last year further undermines your silly OP. Look at the top ten sellers from luxury brands. All SUV's.

Given how mundane Lexus vehicles are, this may be the first actual disagreement involving the Lexus brand
BlueSmoke

Summary:
Lexus dipped their toe into faster, sportier cars. They designed for touring and luxury, not raw speed and power. Sales were "meh", so they pulled back on most of these lines. OP likes sportier, quicker cars, and seems quite displeased for the sunsetting of these options. Toyota, in true fashion realized that aspect of the market is saturated, sales were "ok" and pivoted back to suburbia and soccer moms and realized more sales than any other year.

The end
Nobody cares. Work Harder

I remember a day when the LS was one of the premier flagship sedans on the road and now I probably haven't seen one in five years.

There's a teenager running around my area in a mid-90's LS400 that looks like he's put some work into. I drool every time I see it running around.

I asked the dealer about the PHEV TX and was told it would take about 19 months to get one.

That model has a V6 in it.

If not for the engine options we would have probably bought a TX a couple weeks ago. It's a nice ride, very comfortable, and probably more usable space for anything of comparable size that's not a minivan. To me the four cylinder just felt buzzy and noisy. My wife currently has an Audi Q5 which also has a turbo four cylinder but it feels much smoother and less labored under acceleration despite very similar output numbers.

Meh, I don't think it's silly. I get the overall market change and posted an article on it. I would still argue that Lexus is irrelevant and/or becoming so. The only people buying the RX and the ES are boomers. Maybe their ES redesign for next year will jazz things up since they are effectively going all-in on one car but right now they are boring as hell.

They'll have two cars, the ES and the IS. The IS has new styling for 2026 so it's likely to be around a while yet. The IS sold 20k versus 30k for the BMW 3 series.

It's fairly likely they'll introduce future sporty models using those two platforms.

Yes, but they killed the fun IS. What they have left is underpowered.

(I owned an 2006 IS 350 for 10 years. Great car.)

I think we all in what ways "boomer" is used for.. I'm
Just saying people continue to get old and change what they want. There will continue to be a place for Lexus. People driving RXs all over the place that are not 60+ years old.

We are trying to decide between the LC, 4Runner, and GX for my wife. She hates the look of the TX. Test drove all 3 and she liked the LC the most. I've been driving a GX460 for about 7 years and I was really pushing her towards the new GX, but after being in them, I also preferred the LC. I wish they would have gone with a different engine choice, though.

Yes, pricing is ridiculous....

I'm not saying they are going bankrupt and cease to exist, but compared to what they used to be they are comparatively irrelevant.

Where once they were ubiquitous on the streets of Dallas as a luxury option (where I lived for 23 years), they no longer exist. It's all Tesla, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche. Markets like that are still strong for sedans and Lexus barely exists there.

Whereas where I live now? Probably 95% truck and SUVs. My car is a metaphorical unicorn in any metro, but especially down here.

Be warned about the LC, you'll be filling up with gas frequently. My sister was shopping the same vehicles, bought the LC and now complains she has to fill up with gas all the time. The "range" is based on EPA estimates and using the whole tank of gas.

Well, Lexus has the gas light come on and show you're almost empty with 3 gallons left. I asked the dealer why I could never get more than 13 gallons into my 16 gallon ES350 gas tank and they told me the reserve is there to keep the fuel pump cooled and if I ran it out of gas and overheated the fuel pump, it would NOT be covered under warranty.

LC rated 23 combined x (17.9-3) = 342miles. My sister says she's getting more like 18 mpg with mostly city driving.

GX550 17 combined x (21.1-3) = 307 miles. Likely going to get much worse mileage than 17.

In a large sedan city with a dense population where sedans make sense and sedans are still highly relevant.

Yes, they are largely irrelevant and have announced this by discontinuing all sedan models but 2 of them.

Obviously, they are following the US car maker trend of abandoning sedans based on the article I posted after my initial OP, but they also clearly got their ass beat by their competitors who have remained in the market.

I do not see what's so hard to understand here.

Maybe I should have said "largely irrelevant" since we have taken my OP title to the literal max we can take it now despite me posting an article almost directly afterwards laying out the industry trends.
