The 22 GX that we bought did not have a hitch receiver installed. Want to install one. I will do the installation.

There appear to be two options. A really simple little one for 200 bucks that is rare around 5k. Or a beefier one rated at 6500 for Around 500.

I do not expect to be doing heavy towing. Most likely use is a bike rack or a hitch tray thing. But I could see some situations where we might tow a U-Haul trailer. I am not experienced with trailer weights and loads.

Do o need the beefier one?

Always good to have the extra capacity. IMHO, the extra $300 is a small investment in that vehicle.

That is how I am leaning. The higher one also spreads the load to the outside frame which is probably better for weight distribution.

Max towing weight for the vehicle is 6500 pounds, so get that one so that you will never need to replace it. Anything heavier than that and you shouldn't be towing it with the vehicle or the hitch.

I was in the same situation with my '17 GX 460 and opted to go with this: Amazon.com: CURT 13043 Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2-Inch Receiver, Fits Select Lexus GX460 : Automotive

Installation was really easy. It fit perfectly on mine and didn't require any cutting of the trim.

I only use it for a bike rack. I also have a truck for any serious towing.

I ended up going with the 5000lb Curt option. Just couldn't justify spending three times as much for the extra 1500lbs of capability. Especially when I very very rarely have any need to tow anything at all. It is most likely going to be 99percent used for a bike rack or cargo tray.

About the easiest installation imaginable. Took longer to put together the tool to lower the spare than to install the hitch.
