Wasn't really directed toward you. 996 is one of my favorite cars. Think it's funny someone in a pick-up is trying to run smack at a Porsche.
Homie was talking a lot of **** for what was presumably a 12.4-12.6 car. My point being that a car which runs upper 8's is out his stratosphere.

Even a 296GTB running upper 9's isn't much of a comparison. A 1 second difference in ET is significant, we're talking 747's, not car lengths.

Still a Chevy…also 296 better looking.

360 also better looking...

Those are cool cars. I just have no clue about the maintenance regime and cost on a Ferrari. Guess I could inquire.

Oil 1x per year, add brake fluid, coolant and gearbox oil every 2nd year, timing belts every 5. And this one has an access panel so no dropping the engine nonsense like some early Ferrari's. Gearbox oil is kinda a PITA bc you have to drop the diffuser and take off the bumper to get to it. Rest of the fluids are pretty easy (like any other car).

Timing belts can be a lock and swap with new bearings or if you want pull the cam covers and check the valve timing. The timing belts used to say Dayco on them and were $30/ea. Now they say Ferrari and are $130/ea !!

i did install new Tubi headers and did a Challenge Stradale ECU tune along with new MAF sensors. Put new PS2's on it 8 years ago and they only have 8,000 miles and are due bc of age.

Actually sounds very reasonable.

it is until random stuff breaks as it gets old.

The passenger door handle/lock is known to have cable stretch, which used to be $20 part. But Ferrari no longer sells the cable by itself so you have to buy the whole door lock/cable assembly for like $800. I grabbed a cable from Maserati and it's sitting on my storage shelf.

The 2000+ cars have a pre-cat in the header collector which has come apart on some people's car (it's very rare) but it does happen. This can get sucked back into the engine and cause catastrophic damage.

The carbon brakes are crazy expensive but folks have found that certain model year Vette's have the same pads/rotors and a much cheaper.

Clutch components are not cheap and the F1 cars do not last as long as the manual car. That can be $10k all in if you pay a shop to do it. The clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing, etc is $4,000.

Just random stuff like that on the older cars can bite you. They only made 15,000 360's. It's not like there is a crazy demand for parts so they get expensive.

I have 2 2002 Porsches. Luckily parts are easy to get for both of them. But, yeah, I have random stuff that fails. Air oil separator for the Boxster. Shift cables, etc. Luckily, I have kept it out of the shop for quite some time.

Bruv, he has a carbon fiber (fibre?) hood. An assassin. He has made thousands of $ in the 1/4 mile. So many thousands he had to de-tune it and stop raking in the dough. But let's not expect him to remember his times.

Sorry for the argument. I use the car as a weekend street car. I'm certain the truck would beat me. I will disengage from that discussion.

You have a high strung, unreliable vehicle for which any kind of maintenance, repairs and parts will be insanely expensive. Further, its not like there are garages or dealers qualified to do the work on every corner, or even every town.

The Chevy, meanwhile, will be far less expensive to maintain and repairs can be made at any Chevy dealership. Absolutely every aspect of Corvette ownership is simpler and a superior value compared to those high strung Italian go karts.

The hardest part of Corvette ownership is the constant struggle of explaining to everyone about how superior it is vs those "high strung Eye-talian go carts!"

Very cool car especially from an American company. Even the base Corvette is a great car that you can get from nearly every local dealer, my small dealer got one z06 not long ago. ZR availability is a different story but still cool.

I would say the 997s which succeeded the 996s were the last analog P-cars. The 991s were more modernized.

I've been a Corvette fan my whole life. I've owned 5 of them. The c8 is hands down the best corvette ever made. The z06 is a damn super car and the ZR1 is just bragging rights. Most likely no one on this forum can drive either to their full potential.

Ferrari's will always hold a special place in my heart but they're not American and never will be. Porsche just always came off as a woman's car. Can't take men who drive them seriously.

There are SCCA champions, NASA American Iron and CMC drivers, SpecMiata drivers, and former open wheel racer (agracer) on this forum along with some ol' school TAMSCC members. We all up for this challenge, toss us the keys

I will ignore that tarded comment about Porsches

Man that's a lot of peni measuring contest scrabble we got from Ferrari vs Chevy.

So let me add to it.

Chevy makes the best sports cars for the money. A 1LE SS will outperform any car 2x its cost on a circuit track. A Z06 Corvette will outperform just about any car outside 911 GT3 RS at my home track.

A ZR1 will likely outperform all cars on the track.

If you want to look rich or cool, maybe pick up the divorced single mom with your car flex sure, enjoy the Ferrari, but that's not why I got my sports car. I got mine to do fast laps at Eagles Canyon Raceway. The most popular cars there are 911's, Corvettes, and Miata's. I've never seen a Ferrari on the track, outside of car show days.

I very much enjoy overtaking drivers that don't know how to push their 911's or Corvettes to the limit.

"A Z06 Corvette will outperform just about any car outside 911 GT3 RS at my home track."

The 911 GT3 RS (even the 996 variant) has an advantage over the turbos on the track... a much higher redline. Think 8200 RPM vs 6500 RPM. That makes for a bit more shifting on the turbos.

The newer models are likely paddle-shifted PDKs. Out at COTA for a SCCA event... Porsche on the grid had a plate 'No PDK". I thought that was clever.
