OP, you just admitted you didn't want to be stuck for ten minutes. Is what you did even legal, using a turn lane for an acceleration lane to join traffic on the road? I don't think so.

You were impatient. Take a right next time and go down to someplace you can get turned around to go the correct direction.

This is exactly what transpired. I had a clear and open window to enter ongoing traffic. As I stated in my original explanation, I was accelerating with the pedal buried to the floor. We were going the exact same speed when he clipped me.

Sounds like you weren't up to speed, he tried to go around you, and you didn't want to let him in. Road rage on both sides maybe. Buff out the scratches, take the lesson, and move on.
