I've checked about 4 places locally. Looks like the going rate is 500-800 to get a new Weatherguard painted to match my lower two tone on my truck and my ranch hand replacement bumpers.

I haven't bought the toolbox yet, but my question is, what material and finish should be purchased to maximize the best paint longevity of it? I'm not opposed to rhino lining it in a close dark bronze but none of my local shops will do colors.

DIY raptor liner is pretty easy and it can be tinted whatever color you want. Applies with a drywall gun, but you're looking at $300 for their "base" kit.

If you want it shiny, a lot of O'Reilly stores will paint match your color and put it in a spray can. Can of 2k epoxy primer, 2-3 cans of color, 2-3 cans of 2k clear, sand paper, etc. You're probably $150-200 all in.

I know you DIY a lot. My vehicle painting projects usually don't turn out great when 2k clear is involved. It's why I went Raptor liner on my Bronco. After 10 years of sitting in the sun, it's just now starting to flake in some places, but the color still looks great..

Agree with all of this, I'd probably go the Raptor Liner route.

A smooth surface (not diamond plate) would certainly be much easier to prep.

Yeah, I'd DIY it but painting is not a skill I have any legitimate experience with outside of tractor parts and meat smokers. It would probably look like ass if I did it.

I'll look into the liner. Weatherguard instantly voids the warranty when you do that but that's a risk I'll have to accept if I decide to. Part of me thinks I should just get the black painted one and be done at least I can transfer that to another truck later without needing to paint it again. Maybe painting it is too bougie.

My black rough matte finish box has held up really well. It wouldn't have been my first choice but it was on clearance for 600 when I bought it before they changed the styles. Wish I'd bought two. lol.

I've heard rumors there is a gay rodeo star in the Houston area that sells tool boxes.

Might check out the thread on her about him.

I'm aware of the thread and the rodeo star but he said he does not paint boxes. He can only assist in location of the box.
