21 F150 w/ 80k original battery
Dealer says the battery is bad. Took it to autozone where they ran their own test. They say battery is fine but starter is bad. The auto start/stop has not been working as of late which leads me to suspect that it is, in fact a battery issue.

Anyone have better insight on what I'm dealing with? Would hate to buy a brand new battery only to find out the issue wasn't actually a battery and something that would theoretically be covered under my extended warranty.

Go out one morning and the truck wouldn't start after sitting all weekend. Put a jumper on it and it fires up. Swing it by the local parts shop and they test the battery and say it's good. Truck continues to start normally. Few weeks go by and the same thing. It gets to where I'm leaving it on a maintainer over the weekends. But EVERY parts store continues to say that the battery itself is still fine.

I'm stuck thinking great, I've got an electrical gremlin somewhere draining my battery.

Finally one day I'm getting ready to leave work and the truck again will not start. No one there. I decided the hell with this and pulled the battery, and jumped in a work truck and took it over to another O'Rileys certain they are going to tell me the battery is fine.

No... They tell me the battery is dead as can be. It's probably getting close to time for that battery to head to pasture.

It's getting "time" for your battery. Now I'm not convinced that Auto On/Off won't certainly lead to early starter deaths, but do the comparatively cheaper battery first.

2016 Porsche Cayenne. 90,000 miles. Changed the battery for the first time in late 2025. Roughly 10 years.

The battery that came with my 2018 F150 lasted 5 years. Longest I've ever had a battery.

Some of the VAG models/line have some crazy large, long lived batteries. I had a 2013 Audi S7 that lasted until 2022. It was located in the hatch under the spare tire and looked like it came off a John Deere tractor.

9000 miles a year and garage kept I am sure. My cars get a lot more miles and live in the hot driveway. Sweet car though!

Same with my 2013 X5 diesel. Factory AGM battery lasted nearly 8 years. In a compartment under the rear cargo area and the thing is like 2 feet long.

If the battery is 5 years old, it will most likely need to be replaced very soon anyway. I would get a new battery now and see if it solves the issue.

This was basically my thought as well. Picked one up this evening and everything seems g2g now. I went with the Walmart battery as it has a 4 year warranty for 189.
