We bought our son a 2013 F-150 and it only came with one key and fob. I'm not comfortable not having a spare and called the dealership and to cut and program a new key they want $450 which is ludicrous to me. I can buy an aftermarket key and fob for $12 on Amazon. Does the spare have to be programmed to start the vehicle? If I just buy one off the net and have the key cut to match the original would that key start the truck? I know it would allow me to manually unlock the doors but I'm not sure about ignition.

I am fine with a manual unprogrammed key for a spare if that is possible.

It will need to be programmed.

If you're in Houston I have the software to do it.

Don't pay $450. That's insane.

I'm in SA. Oh well I guess I will see if a locksmith can do it cheaper.

Programming a key for a 2013 Ford F-150 can be done at home with the right steps. Here's a brief guide on how to do it:

Required Items
At least one working key (if available)
New key to be programmed

Programming Steps

Insert the Working Key: Insert your existing key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position without starting the engine.

Turn Off and Remove Key: Turn the key back to the "Off" position and remove it.

Insert New Key: Insert the new key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position.

Wait for Confirmation: Leave the key in the "On" position for about 10 minutes until the security light turns off.

Turn Off and Test: Turn the key back to the "Off" position, remove it, and then test the new key by starting the engine.

I don't know about Amazon, but EBAY has a lot of fobs for sale that are just an outer shell without the inner works.

Went to Guaranty off Huebner and 10 a few times. Like $175 maybe. Call first and let them know what you need.

Thanks, they'll do it for $100 after the key I ordered on Amazon arrives.

Here in SA, I got a replacement FOB for my F150 at Batteries and Bulbs. I believe they charged around $80 for the parts and programming.
