If they bring this back, especially in the way Ford did the bronco (not sport), I would look pretty hard at one. especially with a V8! Not holding my breath though.

That GM turbo 4 may be the most reliable truck engine in the market right now. Definitely more reliable than their V8 offerings.

A K5 Blazer is what people like me want. Not a reliable turbo 4. I don't care if it makes 800 hp when it's spooled up, I want a 350 cu. in. V8 (or larger) that sounds great.

I paid $2,700 in 1988 dollars for a vehicle that looked just like the one in this tweet and I drove it throughout my time at Texas A&M. I wish I still had it almost as much as I wish I still had my 2002 Laguna Seca Blue BMW M3 or my 1977 VW Bus.

If they're asking $50k for a 51 year old K5 Blazer, I'd be willing to do $75k+ for a brand new one. Maybe cut down on the screens and get rid of crap like self-driving mode or hands free passing mode that no real driver wants anyway. I'd order one of those tomorrow.



Or heck, it doesn't have to be GM. Ford could bring back the OJ Bronco and I'd take a look.

The only realistic option for this on a half ton frame is the 6.2 which still has issues and a band aid fix, and the 5.3 which also suffers from long term AFM lifter failure. Considering their competitors offer two turbo 6's and a 4 cylinder that's just where the market is and probably isn't changing. My guess is they will throw the 5.3 and 2.7 in it. Maybe either the 3.0 diesel or 6.2 in a high performance package.

I see it like this. For comparison, I have 2 Jeeps in my fleet right now.
  • 2001 RHD Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7L V8 that makes 235 hp connected to a 4 spd automatic.
  • 2020 Jeep Wrangler with a 3.6L V6 that makes 285 hp connected to a 8 spd automatic
According to the Internet, the Wrangler (~4,500 lbs) is about 1.5 seconds faster 0-60 mph than the Grand Cherokee (300 lbs lighter than the Wrangler).

I can tell you without a doubt that the Grand Cherokee with the V8 is much more fun to accelerate in.

Give me a 2 door Tahoe or a 2 door Expedition with a 5.7L or bigger V8 and I'm placing an order.

And Silvy, thanks for posting, you triggered the reminder that I need to call your paint guy in Dickinson to see if my Expedition is ready yet.

Truthfully, I think RAM is the only manufacturer who would be bold enough to try it.
And put a Hemi in it... home run.

Like you, I for some reason really love 2 door full size SUVs. I have a Bronco and a 2 door Tahoe and eye every clean Ramcharger I pass, but I think we're the minority. I think 4 door Jeeps are still outselling the 2 doors by a large margin, and somewhere around 10% of new Bronco sales are for 2 doors. They just aren't that popular.

I could see a new full size with FJ style rear doors being more popular. I think most Americans are too large to comfortably get in the back seat of a 2 door SUV.

It's why Ford ditched the 2 door Raptors. They made up 5-7% of the sales. It wasn't worth it to keep it around.

Yeah, driving that K5 Blazer for 5 years, certain things suck with that shorter wheelbase. Especially going over train tracks in small towns.

The longer wheelbase on the 4 Door Wrangler gives it a much smoother ride than the 2 Door. Other side note on the Wrangler, the JL with the sound deadening panels in the roof is way quieter than the JK model.

For my HS friend EMY92, before I bought my 2020 Wrangler, I was considering an F-350 which they make in a 2 Door model, but they're virtually impossible to find. My odd use case is driving up a narrow mountain road in Northern Nevada thus why I'd want a 2-door instead of a 4-door.

I actually saw one on the highway the other day and had to do a double take. Had no idea they made them that way.
