I'll never get tired of seeing A&M represented in Motorsports! There is a damn good chance that Felix Rosenqvist ends up on the pole too.

He didn't end up on pole but has a very fast car. Love seeing that helmet.

What's the connection between A&M and that team?

A&M is a sponsor. I believe they have an all-maroon paint job on one of the cars, but he didn't drive that one in the Indianapolis 500.

ETA- I thought Rosenqvist was driving for Arrow McClaren, I was mistaken.

I wish the car had been running the A&M livery. That said, why are we sponsoring? Are we currently lacking for student applicants? I would get it if we had played a role in car development or the team had a strong A&M connection. It just seems like this is advertising for the sake of spending a marketing budget (albeit a cool expense).

I watched the race...what a weekend for McClaren. Face planted with both cars due to team decisions at the F1 Canadian Grand Prix, then won it all at Indy. This weekend is the least I've seen Zac Brown smile, dude looked stressed.

Seems like it's simply marketing to an untapped audience (NASCAR / INDYCAR) with a military-focused message.

Also cool to see current students benefit:
Quote:

Additionally, the novel partnership with HFT (formerly Stewart-Haas Racing) will provide Texas A&M University students with unique, hands-on learning opportunities in elite-level motorsports. HFT will select two students for paid summer internships at its race shop in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and will host 10 students at Texas Motor Speedway on May 3 for an immersive behind-the-scenes experience alongside HFT engineers in the garage and on the track.

The "why" behind it was that General Welsh wanted A&M to be a part of the national conversation. Not just enrollment, but consideration for research and everything else that top tier research universities engage in.

The VP of Marketing or CMO or whatever the actual title is came from Purdue where he had success in driving engagement through different motorsports partnerships. So he brought what he knew to A&M and applied it to General Welsh's goals.
