I can understand their mandate to meet regulatory requirements by building an EV; although, I don't agree with the regulations.
What I don't understand is:
1. Why not make it look like an actual Ferrari, that some Ferrari fans might actually want to buy?
2. If you're going to make it look like a futuristic econobox, why not price them at $100K to $150K and sell a ton of them based on the nameplate alone? Does the volume of sales not count toward emissions requirements? Is there no averaging there and they just have to produce an EV, but not actually sell any?
I hate the idea of an electric Ferrari as much as anyone. I'd prefer the company go back to naturally aspirated flat plane crank V8 mid rear rwd sports cars with optional gated six speeds and DCTs, instead of the overpowered ultra expensive hybrid V6 appliances they are building now. If they are going to have to build an electric Ferrari, at least build one that blows people away and doesn't diminish the nameplate.
I do appreciate their keeping the NA V12 GT around in the 12 Cilindri and possibly even putting a gated six speed in it. The Purosange is actually pretty cool too, never thought I'd see a manufacturer build a NA V12 SUV again.
