I have '21 FX4 that is in great shape (135k) but starting to get the rough shifts that the 10R80 is known for. What is the best replacement transmission and how do you find a good shop that makes the repair worth the cost? Haven't done a lot of research but did find the Monster transmission as a replacement - my change is not imminent but is definitely going to happen. I really prefer a new transmission over a new truck as I'm close to retirement but also interested in any real world examples yall have that would push me one way or the other.

mainly clunks when it downshifts to 8 or 4. And it always hesitates when I first put it in drive. Probably need to start with your suggestion.

I would definitely change the fluid before I would buy a whole new transmission. With that mileage you would be due for a full fluid replacement with any automatic transmission. Ford, Toyota, whatever.

I am interested in answers to his original question. I bought a used '22 F 150 for my sons to use. They are racking up miles fast and I fear we might experience these issues in a few years. A transmission is expensive but not compared to a whole new truck.

A good synthetic transmission fluid is still way cheaper than a new transmission.
