I think Courtney and Katie schide both go under the course record.

Sounds like the snow at the beginning may have really messed some people up.

Definitely took out Hayden Hawkes. He's trying to tough it out, but at this point I'll be surprised if he finishes.

Heather out of top 10.

The back half of the course is much more runnable. She's got the engine to charge back into the top 10, if she's not having other issues. From Forrest Hill to the finish suits her much better than that first 100k.

Sounds like heather dropped.

Courtney is going to absolutely smash this course record.

So did Hayden.

Kind of sucks for Katie Schide. She's chasing the record too but Courtney's going to get the better time unless something crazy happens.
AggieOO

Sucks to break the course record and finish second, but Schide has zero to be bummed about. She's having a historic run. Just happens to be running behind the woman who has a solid case for the GOAT.

I'd like to see Hayden win, but I don't know if he'll come through. Tom Evans will be interesting to watch.

On the women's side...Courtney.

Both my picks dropped

Feel bad for both really.

Just finished watching the golden hour. Last finisher had 15 seconds to spare.

Can't believe Ash Bartholomew missed the finish by 2.5 minutes

That was a wild finish! What an emotional roller coaster

Yesterday Camille posted that it was indeed the snow that did her in and her PT helped her make the call.
Heather posted that she fell one too many times. Her ankle looked pretty bad. She also said she would be back.
AggieOO

Camille doesn't typically run well when she's in the mountains. She's really good at the faster non-technical stuff.

At WS100, she has a F8 finish, which is solid. Then she has 3 DNFs and a 26th place.

I wouldn't bet against her at something like Javelina, but she's not going to compete for podium spots in the mountains. Her DNF didn't surprise me.

What kind of watch does every one have and how long of a race will it get you through without having to charge it?

In my research over the past couple years most major brand running watches will get you through all but the most ultra of ultra distance runs without issue.

I have a Forerunner 965 currently and have been getting excellent battery life. Data point: charged to 100% midday Thursday last week. 30 min run Friday, 4 hr run sat, 30 mins run Mon, 45 min run Tues and I'm at 55% battery now on Wed night. Worn basically 24/7, SatIQ gps setting, sleep pulse OX, no music, and otherwise default settings. If I recall correctly they advertise something like 24 hours of reg gps and low 30s in ultra mode (without music).

Fenix 6x. Never run it from 100 to zero, but 40+ hours in GPS mode. I charge it probably once a month.

Wife has the 6s. Smaller size means less battery, but the solar does extend quite a bit. Not my watch so couldn't give better data.

I have a venu2s and it barely got me through 40 miles. I had to put it on battery saver mode towards the end. Whenever I upgrade, I'm looking for something with maps and better battery.

K got through gorge 100k with juice to spare, and there was zero sun that day.

I'm not sure that's a good comparison for me. I'm slower than you, your wife, and your BIL.
AggieOO

timewise, she got 16 hours with battery to spare, but couldn't tell you what the % left was since it wasn't my watch.

stats from garmin say it'll do 24 hours in GPS mode, and 28 hours with solar charging. I'm sure the 7 has longer life.

do you switch to GPS only for races?
AggieOO

Not sure I understand what you are asking.
aggiespartan

You can switch it to GPS only mode and it uses less battery. I think that turns off some of the other satellites so it pings less often.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ah. I don't, but I have custom settings where I have it turn off Bluetooth, optical HR, etc when I select "trail race" as an activity.

But I also have never run long enough to kill the battery, even on standard settings.

I can't even run that fast when it's not 100 degrees.

Ashley Paulson wins badwater.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
that's pretty badass. only other time, that i can remember, a woman has been 1st overall was Pam Reed.

and on the badass women topic, Pam will be finishing shortly. She ran western states less than 2 weeks ago, and is running Hard Rock next weekend.

badwater doesn't get the publicity of other races, but with courtney's dominance at WS and Ashley taking 1 OA, hopefully there are a bunch of girls out there being inspired to lace up their shoes.

Looking forward to Hard Rock!

She hasn't won any races recently, but I think Sally McRae is doing a lot for women runners too. Her being completely open about her weight during training has been pretty interesting to follow too.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i'm sure you are aware, but she's not really pushing to win any races this year. Its all about pushing herself to the 200 mile distance. I mean, she's a competitor, so if she's in position, I'm sure she'd go for the win, but that's not what this year is about for her. At least from the interviews I've listened to and from her posts. I still need to pick up her book.
aggiespartan
How long do you want to ignore this user?

That's true and saying she hasn't won this year wasn't any sort of dig, but I think the winners are just the people that get seen the most. What she's doing is pretty amazing. I can't believe she finished Cocodona with those feet.

Anyone here ever done or have any familiarity with the Sage Burner trail race in Gunnison, CO?

I hate to be that guy, but just realized she's the one who had a questionable finish time last year. Previously banned from triathlon for doping. She just posted the second fastest time ever on the Badwater course. I hope it's legit, but its going to be scrutinized. Last year's time does seem legit after the circus of issues, but unfortunately she's always going to be under a microscope.
