I'm kinda interested in getting a heavy bag. Primarily just for cardio use. I'm not looking to get in the ring or anything. But the place in my garage I want to put it precludes me from hanging it. I've seen things like the century wavemaster that has a heavy fillable base. If I put in on a rubber mat I'm wondering how much it might move around. I've also seen stands that can hold a hanging bag, but they look pretty large and bulky. Anybody using a bag that's not hanging from ceiling? What are y'all using, and what are your thoughts?

I have one in my garage, but I honestly don't use it. My dad bought the stand and the bag was his (one he had for years, but still in very good shape). He gave it to me for my son to use and bought us a stand for it. It's a little bulky but it works for what it is.

This is basically what I have Punching bag stand with speed bag

Do you have to stack weight on it to keep the frame from moving around much?

Not if you're hitting it from the side. If you hit it from the front, the bag will bang into the stand and cause it to shift. But then it's intended to be hit from the sides.

Depends on how big you are and how hard you hit. For just cardio type stuff a handing back with 100-200 pounds will be enough. With those with a martial arts background I would recommend a floor based unit that you can fill with 300+ pounds of sand and/or water. Even on a rubber mat it can still move around but so do people when you hit them
