After the procedure are you starving or are you pretty groggy for the rest of the day?

Neither for me. I fast regularly so there was no hunger issue and I was pleasantly surprised that I just woke up from the procedure with zero unpleasant feeling or sensation.

I woke up in the middle of the procedure able to feel but not able to talk. I finally was able to sort of groan and they upped the anesthesia.

Do not recommend.

I was not starving at all. Just normal hungriness for lunch around 12:30 PM.

I was a little groggy in recovery, but 100% about 30 minutes later.

First, glad that you're going. On my first trip I had 3 polyps that doc said could've been problematic had I not gone in at 50. Took care of them right there and then and I am so thankful. Consequently, I've been on a fairly regular rotation since I obviously have a proclivity for this problem.

I can tell you that it all is relatively easy. I wasn't at all groggy an hour afterwards. I was hungry after but not ravenous. By noon I can't tell anything has ever happened. The worst part, by far, is the day before and that isn't really too bad. Really no reason to not get this very important screening.

Funny story, on my last visit I am sitting in waiting room before procedure when I hear this guy go up to desk because he doesn't see his name on the intake board. The staffer said his procedure was next week…not that day. He pleaded with them to squeeze him in but to no avail, his doc wasn't even there that day. Sat on the crapper all day for nothing. Ugh.

Was very groggy afterward. After the grogginess wore off (a few hours)...I feasted.

I ran faster to the bathroom on my first trip POST procedure than I did the night before.

Got very nervous cause we have a white couch.

The prep the night before goes very easy if you stick to a liquid diet that day. Good prep is key to a good exam.

I tend to be slow to shake off anesthesia but I was fine after a nap when I got home, and just ate pretty normally afterwards. I was hungry but it wasn't too bad.

Waking up and coming down off the propofol was the best part for me.

I was thirsty AF.

Back at work and typically hungry an hour post-op. The 48 hours of prep or whatever it was is by far the worst part. I did not have any broth on hand for that last half day and struggled. Next time...

Forgot to say I got propofol'd twice. Went under for a few minutes and pulled back out because the doctor had some other more urgent procedure. (?) Talked with the anesthetist for 30 mins like nothing happened, then back under. Great stuff!

I thought I'd be starving but I really wasn't. I think when I finally ate again it had been 40 hours since my last meal.

I started drinking Smooth Move tea a few days out and went heavy on the salads. Prep was not a big deal.

I do tell everyone who's getting one that the first big bowel movement after drinking the liquid happened outside of the time expectation - like about 15 minutes. I was getting a wee bit nervous but turns out that is very normal.

I mixed gatorade with my prep. 64oz in an hour. I still won't touch gatorade anymore.

I was very hungry, went to a pancake house after the procedure, but was ready to fall asleep halfway through the stack.

Even if the pills aren't covered by your insurance you should demand them. I have done enough colonoscopies and the liquid prep is the worst part. Each version tastes awful.

I wanted my coffee first, then had my normal breakfast. Not groggy at all.

The first time I heard pills existed was from the intake nurse the morning of the procedure. Fml. Next time I'm doing that for sure.

This x10000000. The pills are the only way to go. Fasting isn't much of a problem until you have to drink that crap.

I have Crohn's so I get one every 2-3 years for the last 13 years.

Bone broth is great for fasting. Lots of water, as well.

I'm never starving after, but have a normal appetite. Also not very groggy, either. I always feel like I'm waking up from one of those 3 hour naps where you pass out on the couch, wake up, and can't tell if it's time to go to work or have dinner.

I like to see how high I can count from the time they give me the anesthesia to the time I'm out.

That's funny. I'm pretty sure I only get one digit out before I am waxed. I can feel it (cold) hit my hand where the IV is stuck in the top of my hand and then it is maybe one or two seconds before I am out. I had one anesthesiologist that didn't give me any warning…I felt the cold hit and I think I said "wait" but then I was out. I didn't think that was cool. Everyone else has given me a heads up.

I played a game like that last time I went in too. I kept saying in my head "stay awake, stay awake" But I could feel the cold propofol being injected in my hand and moving up my arm. By the time it got to my shoulder, the next thing I remembered was waking up in recovery. It's a trip.

This. I had the liquid for mine and it was terrible. Like warm camel spit with a hint of lemon. My wife got to do the pills with water and had no issues.

The propofal was amazing. I was in middle of asking a question about where to hang my wrist on the side of the bed, and I woke up an hour or two later.

No more hungry than normal.

I was moderately hungry and not groggy at all. Was 35 at the time.

I got mine done years early than what was recommended. Had several pre-cancerous polyps removed. Get the scope done.

They had me eat low fiber for 4 days before the prep so I was hungry but full very quickly. I think the next day I was eating normally again.

The night before: the prep started at 6 PM and a second bottle around 2 AM. Obviously I didn't sleep very much. I felt really weak (liquid diet + prep solution) and needed an hour nap afterward.

Curious what prompted you to get a colonoscopy at 35. Symptoms? Fam history?

I'm 42 with a digestive system acting up and thinking I might need one just for good measure

I had one a couple months ago at 37 to rule out Crohns as the root cause of a chronic anal fissure. Fun times. The prep wasn't as horrible as I was expecting it to be. I'm lucky I had reason to do this because they took out 3 benign polyps. Now I get to go back every few years. On the bright side it wasn't Crohns causing my issues, and an outpatient surgery has fixed all my issues.

I had some blood on my feces that couldn't be explained. Not fresh but not melena, somewhere in between. Glad I did it. No telling what those puppies would have grown into if I had waited 5+ more years to do it. I will be getting one every 5 years now.

And in response to all the complaints about the prep

I was prescribed a liquid prep called Suprep. The taste wasn't great, but wasn't terrible either. Worked like a charm. The procedure was scheduled for mid-afternoon.

The anesthesiologist used propofol. An amazing drug. Quick onset and quick resolution. No nausea. I felt like I could have driven myself home or to work afterwards, but of course they wouldn't let me.

Based upon my one time experience, it was way better than I feared.

A colonscopy could save your life.

Everyone should get it. The prep drink sucks but oh well. Not eating for a day is surprisingly tolerable. Bottom line is irs minor and worth it.

I'm 54 now. At 45, before I could even get a colonoscopy normally, I had blood discharge. I assumed it was nothing for a couple of weeks then went in and got a colonoscopy. Turned out it was stage 3 rectal cancer. And I'm a pretty fit guy, work out, run, rarely sick, etc. Certainly no symptoms or expectation of anything. Thank God for the blood!

Fully treated, no recurrence, the whole 9 month radiation, chemo, surgery, temporary plumbing, etc. all is good now. But I'm definitely a believer in the test. And now because of high levels of colorectal cancers they moved the approved age down to 45. Get it done and get it done as soon as it's allowed.

The first time (age 58) I followed instructions to a T. I woke up and was told they couldn't do it because I wasn't clean enough. My family doc said he did the 2 day cleanse and I did that for the second attempt. Have family history and they found 10 polyps. Glad that did it old school so they could snip it while I was there. The doc said I didn't need another for 10 years. No no no. It's been 5 years and I'm doing it in February.

Any suggestions for a physician in The Woodlands?
