Had my first in my early 40s. Asked about it because I'm adopted with no family history. As a logical engineer, it seemed to make more sense to check early and be told you are good til 50,than to check at 50 and be told OH ****, WISH YOU HAD COME EARLIER.
Was actually a fight as insurance didn't want to let it be done and my family doc said no. Then had some blood and went to a specialist. He agreed with my theory and got it approved. They found multiple polyps. So probably would have been an issue had I waited. Stupid insurance companies!! Have been going every 2 or 3 years since.
As others have said, it isn't that big of a deal. Fasting is pretty easy,i just drink lots of water. The prep sucks. My doc uses the Suprep stuff mentioned above. Just did it a few weeks ago. Despite drinking gallons of water the prep really dehydrated me this time and gave me a terrible headache. Felt kinda crappy the whole day of the procedure. Think maybe I had a little bit of a cold too, that didn't help.
Also had some discomfort after from where they removed a few polyps. Never noticed that before. Took a few days to be back to complete normal
Still totally worth it. Not the most pleasant experience in the world, but it has to be 1000000 time better than dealing with cancer!
