Welp…..got the ol abnormal results on my stress test…so the next step is a heart cath. Anybody on here ever been through one of these??? What do I have to look forward too??
I haven't, but it's pretty straight forward. Show up in the morning. They either go in through your wrist or groin, give you some medical grade margarita through your IV to relax you. If they see anything, they may pop in a stent right then and there, otherwise they'll hold off and schedule a follow up perhaps in a few years. Then they watch you for a couple hours after to make sure there's no bleeding.
We've got a cardiologist or two that come onto the board every so often.
You get conscious sedation, so most say it is kind of like a dream. The initial pictures take about 15 minutes. If they need to place a stent it takes about an hour. You usually go home the same day with no strenuous activity / heavy lifting for 4-5 days after. Best of luck!
I had one done through the groin several years ago because of some "anomalies" with my stress tests (mid 50's at the time). Don't remember any sedation since I was wide awake and could watch the monitor as the doc was checking things out. A little freaky when the cardiologists says, "huh". I asked huh, what? He said, oh nothing to worry about. He found that I have a myocardial bridge and that's what was showing up on the stress test. Also have a bit of build up but also nothing to worry about.
My daughter had one when she was 13 due to an abnormal heart beat issue. Pretty straight forward and hopefully any fixes can be made with a stent, if needed.
