Bumping this thread. Sugar is currently my only failing. Recently did bloodwork and everything looks solid, including a ~750 testosterone reading. Lifting 3 times a week and eating a lot more whole foods.

Any hacks to cut sugar? Thinking I just need to go cold turkey.

Sugar isn't "poison". But, it, and flour, are high glycemic things that tend to create insulin resistance in people. Insulin resistance is associated with metabolic syndrome. High insulin levels are not healthy and are responsible for all sorts of health perils.

In my experience, a lot of this comes down to the basics. Moderation, balanced diet, weightlifting/exercise, and calories in vs. out.

If you eat fewer calories than you expend, you WILL lose weight.

If you were to eat only protein and fat, no carbs (or sugar, God forbid), but ate more calories than you expend, you WILL gain weight. Calories in vs. out

If you only ate jelly beans but ate fewer calories than you expend, you WILL lose weight. But you'll feel terrible. Balance.

If you ate a balanced diet, making sure to get adequate protein (at 1g/lb per day) at a calorie surplus and you add weightlifting, you gain weight in the form of muscle. Keep in mind that 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight per day will not reach your caloric daily expenditure for most people. Hint hint. CARBS. Some jelly beans or a slice of pizza thrown in with your fruits and vegetables (which both contain sugar, btw) will not be the cause of your death. Moderation

Eating a Little Caesar's Hot N Ready for dinner by yourself every day and not exercising almost certainly will.

If you don't want to track calories, just make sure you exercise a few times a week.

The whole "calories in vs. out" thing makes sense on paper, but in real life, it's not always that simple, especially when it comes to how full or satisfied you feel after eating. I've noticed that when I cut out sugary stuff like soda and desserts, it's just easier to manage hunger. Even if I'm eating the same number of calories, I don't get those weird crashes or cravings.
You nailed it with the point about balance. Sugar isn't automatically bad, but it's sneaky it shows up in so many things and adds up fast. And yeah, getting enough protein makes a big difference. When I'm hitting that 1g per pound goal, I feel way more full throughout the day. Definitely makes it easier to stay on track.
