Found a couple older threads on this but didn't find many recs in them.

We are in the market for a home sauna. Don't think we want infrared. Prefer electric over wood burning.

Can anyone offer their experience and brand, along with options/logistics to consider…

Are windows/glass good or bad?
Shingled roof?
Texas climate outside?
Can 2 people really fit in a 2 person?
Round vs Square?

Ive got the clear light sanctuary 6 and love it. Although I wouldn't have more than 4 people in it.

I know you said no infrared, but you might consider it. I put an extra heater in mine and it gets to 175 pretty easy which you'll be drenched. Infrared also heats up your cells directly instead of heating the air.

It's one of the best purchases we have made. My wife and I sauna and cold plunge at least 4 times a week and it's amazing for weight loss, better sleep, detox etc. You won't regret it.

Great point thank you.

Which heaters do you have in there?

Also, is yours indoors or outside?

It's indoors, was pretty easy to install and we had to get a different outlet put in by an electrician first but wasn't expensive.

The sanctuary 6 comes with 4 heaters with an option to put an extra heater on the door. Or that slot can be used for a red light device they sell as well.

Following as we're looking at sauna and cold plunge.

Curious as to which cold plunge you have at home? Considering the Plunge as we have the space versus one of the smaller ones.

I have the Plunge brand hot/cold version. Worked well for about a year and now the chiller keeps freezing up. They sent me a brand new chiller for free and it does the same. Not sure what's causing it to do that but it's unusable if I can't figure it out.

I put in an aquacal tropicool pool chiller. We can isolate it to only cool down the hot tub for cold plunges instead of the doing the whole pool. It gets the water down to 40 degrees. I have also read good things about the Morozko forge as wellif you want to go that route.

One thing to take into consideration is the power source you want to use. Infared can operate off a standard outlet but if you get a wet/dry sauna those require a 220V outlet so you might need to have some professional wiring done at your home. Location matters as well, lots of infared saunas can go inside your home and I believe the wet/dry ones are normally outside due to their size.

Yes I've looked at their pricing online. Becomes more affordable with a subscription, obviously. But for me, the time it takes to go over there I'm better off having a home setup, as I'd be using their service 4-5 times a week.

I wish them luck and hope there is enough demand for that kind of discretionary spending. I do want to go try it out though.

I bought the Heritage cabin sauna from thesaunaplace.com over the summer. Between my wife and I we use it almost every day of the week. I've been very happy with it. The sauna place has great customer service but their shipping company was a pain to deal with (they make it in Canada and it takes a while to get to you). I strongly recommend a traditional sauna over infrared. Most of the studies were done with temps around 175-205 and the infrared just gets to the lower end of that. Plus, pouring the water on the sauna rocks and making the steam bath is just fun. I have a metal roof on mine, which is an option you can choose from thesaunaplace. I also strongly recommend a cabin sauna over a barrel. You want stacked benches so you can get your entire body above the heater, which you just can't do with a barrel. I went with windows just because I thought it looked better aesthetically. However, you do sacrifice privacy based on your outdoor layout, which can be annoying if you're going in your birthday suit.

Also, I think they market mine as a 5 person sauna, but I'm sure it would feel really weird to try to stuff 5 people in there. It's comfortable and spacious for 2 people, but it would probably be awkward with more than that. I imagine a 2 person sauna would feel really crammed.

I also like windows so I can watch football while I'm baking in there. I either do that or listen to podcasts. A lot of ppl also like to stretch in the sauna so another reason to consider going bigger with benches.

That looks awesome. Might be the winner for me. I'll check them out thank you.

Awesome setup! Glad y'all use it a bunch. It really is one of the best purchases we have made.

Just a note on the clear light. It heats up to 175 degrees in about 30-40 minutes max and I have noticed we sweat way more, sooner in the infrared than the traditional saunas I have been in in the past.

I was quoted like 25k to build a traditional sauna in one of our pool house rooms and decided to go the clearlight route.

How long does yours take to heat up to 200?

Thanks! I also consider it one of my better decisions. I replaced our old hot tub with it and we use this 100x more. It usually takes about 45 minutes to get to max temp. It varies a little depending on ambient temperature. I haven't been in an infrared so I can't compare the two. I usually get in it after a workout and I pour a lot of water on the heater so I can get a good sweat going pretty quick.

I actually kind of like the 45 minute wait time because it makes it harder for me to weasel out of working out.
